Had a wonderful stay here. Lovely staff and lovely locals all very friendly. Room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast couldn't fault at all. Ideal location 5 minutes walk into town, 5 mins on bus to Matlock Bath (although they don't run very often)

We came for a Sunday carvery and it was really good. All of the meats were well cooked and the roast potatoes were crispy. The Yorkshire puddings and vegetables were all very nice especially the parsnips and stuffing balls. The only small thing is that you couldn’t go up for seconds. We didn’t want more meat but as the veg was so nice we went up to get some more and were told we weren’t allowed. Despite this it was very nice.

Great, cosy atmosphere and the best Sunday dinner I’ve had in years. It’s carvery style with various plate sizes and generous portions. Also loads of a variety of veg, meats and other sides (cauliflower cheese, cheese and leek etc) and the gravy! Take me back! Great value for money on food and drinks and the staff were brilliant. (Even ordered us a local cab and made sure we got in safely etc). Highly recommended. A must if you’re in Matlock.

Excellent carvery with generous portion of meat. The carvery was not cold unlike most carverys and the beer i had on draught (bass) went well with it. Friendly staff too. Was busy ok the sunday i went but still managed to get a table ok. Would sure return

We stayed for 3 nights for a wedding in Matlock. Decent size rooms good sleep, comfy bed, Good breakfast with copious amount of toast, Good beer, loved the peroni, and the staff and locals in the pub were really friendly. Well situated just off the main street. Only negative was the lady taking breakfast orders on the last morning, looked and sounded as if the customers were an inconvienience, but 1 small negative could not outweigh the numerous positives. Best of all was Ted, the friendly Cockapoo. Thank you Red lion for your hospitality.

Just returned from a 3 day mini break in Derbyshire we stayed for two nights in this lovely B&B. Room was spotlessly clean, views over the lovely beer garden , Plenty of storage space for a short stay , tea coffee making and small TV . Shower room looked like it had recently been upgraded , again spotlessly clean really good shower . Shampoo and separate conditioner,no shower gel . Breakfast was really good cooked fresh to order and nice choice , staff were lovely . We had evening meal both nights and have to say food is really lovely and presented well ,more like a bistro pub food quality. Hotel is situated a short walk from centre of matlock ,with a car park at the rear ( carry on past hotel take next left and it's just round the corner ) The pub brew their own ales moot ales, husband sampled some and was impressed. Would highly recommend this little gem lovely pub/ restaurant B&B, wouldn't hesitate to return . Easy access to surrounding area .

My wife and I really enjoyed our two night stay at the Red Lion. The pub itself is very nice inside, and serves good beer. There is a nice beer garden at the rear, along with a car park. There is a small seated area at the front. Our room was a pretty decent size, with a roomy ensuite. It was clean and well equipped, (hair dryer included). The food was of a great quality, with good sized portions. Most importantly, the staff were very friendly and took a genuine interest in the customers stay. I would definitely stay there again if in the area.
