We pulled up outside and took our cases in we were early and our room wasn’t ready it was only 12 so we went to use the spa which was spot on it is getting a totally new spa next year, and if you look closer you can see it’s needed but it’s so chilled a lovely place to relax. We had Sunday lunch at 2 we were both really hungry and told the young lady so she said it’s fine you’ll be getting some nice bread soon. I asked if we could have a table in the window and was told unfortunately not it’s for 4, then after we had been seated a couple were sat down by another member of staff in the window seat and the extra plates were taken away. I asked about the bread twice and when she said I’ll follow it up again it was too late we had already had starters and the main was due. I then asked about our lunch as other people were being served theirs and they had sat down after us, it did turn up then the food was all beautiful I have to say we just felt a bit like the poor relations a bit forgotten about. Our room was lovely with an amazing comfortable bed, and little bottles of milk in the fridge brilliant idea. Breakfast the next morning was again lovely but it again took a long time to get to us once again we got toast no butter and the hot breakfast was just warm, but nice ingredients. The staff we came into contact with were lovely I just wish there was one person in charge at the restaurant seating people down to make sure every guest gets everything they need it just lets it down a bit.

What a wonderful surprise in the most lovely way to arrive at this hotel in the middle of Storm Claudia to the most beautiful dressed hotel, ready for Christmas and sparkling in every corner. It reminds me of Highclere at Christmas, the proportions and the grandeur. The rooms are spotlessly clean with gorgeous bathrooms and the comfort of Penhaligon bath products. I can not fault this hotel, we intend to return again for a much longer stay. We wish we could have stayed longer!

A luxury hotel, but why don’t you fix the light bulbs ? ? ? A very simple thing… if your going to be 5 stars and charge me nearly £2,000 for 3 nights which I don’t mind for pure luxury, light bulbs fully working would be helpful…. In the main hall it’s so beautiful but then you look up while relaxing by the fire to find flicking lights on the roof which spoils the ambiance. Same in the room, just a little tip which hopefully gets fixed. Beautiful hotel.

Visited here last week for 1 night whilst attending a concert at the Newcastle Arena. We were glad we did. We have stayed previously in another hotel nearer Durham on the coast but went for this one for a change this time and we were not disappointed. The place is warm and welcoming despite being an old building. The architecture both inside and out and the attention to detail in it's decor seamlessly blending modern aspects into an old building was actually sublime. I could have spent a few hours just admiring that had we have had time. The room itself was spotless, the location absolutely tranquil in the middle of nowhere get around 20 mins out of Newcastle. The customer service was absolutely spot on, you felt looked after something that is often a rare find these days. The welcoming roaring fire for the welcome drink a fabulous touch. The breakfast was high quality local ingredients served a large carte. Even the turn down service was tastefully done. Sadly we didn't get chance to visit the leisure facilities as we had a fair journey home and the route was closed however we will definitely return and by the looks of the new spa being built it will be the best on the east coast. Simply cannot wait for a return visit.

Expected 3 rosette standard food however the meal here was the worst I’ve ever had - really poor quality ingredients badly cooked, over seasoned and served cold on cold plates. Not what was expected at all not sure where the head chef trained maybe weatherspoons would be more his level. Poor food if I could give no stars i would What a rip off

We stayed for 3 nights in a family room in October. Pros - We received a warm welcome on arrival, all of the staff were brilliant, welcoming and super helpful. - Tom, John & Grace are a credit to the hotel. - We ate at The Keepers, Cloisters and had breakfast - all of the food was brilliant, and we were often served by Grace (she was fantastic) - We prebooked spa treatments- which is a must, the treatments were incredibly relaxing Con - We stayed for 3 nights and only had our room cleaned once, and we had to chase this twice! And because of this we had to go to reception to get towels, water and bin bags to empty our own bins! - We never got a turn down service either - Upon arrival the room needed a better vacuum (there were pieces of walnut on the floor) Everything was brilliant but housekeeping, and we do not expect to empty our own bins in a 5 star hotel. Fortunately everything else was faultless, but we were left frustrated by the above.

The room was amazing, very luxurious and comfortable. We had a 3 course dinner, which was one of the best meals we've had, the service during this meal was great, nothing was an issue and staff were on hand whenever required.
