Residence San Pietro Barisano

We had a nightmare experience staying here. On our second night there, we found multiple bedbugs in our bed. I miraculously managed to capture the first one we saw, and then after that we saw two more. After seeing the first bed bug we pulled up all the sheets and linings and saw the telltale signs of bedbugs: blood spots on the mattress cover, black/brown residue in the corners of the pillowcase, etc. Of course the biggest evidence was literally seeing multiple bedbugs crawling around. The infestation was extremely severe. After realizing this, we've been noticing bites that resemble bedbug bits in the last few days -- we did spend one night in the bed and it seems like the insects bit us all over. We've found a ton of bites on us since spending the night there. It was a horrible experience, and we had to ditch our luggage, and for good measure we threw out some of our clothing as well. It would have been too risky to keep our luggage, since we did find bedbugs crawling in our clothes in our luggage once we noticed the issue and inspected everything. The bedbugs could have easily burrowed in the various linings of our luggage and bags. We had a flight out the next day and we had to rush to a laundromat to hot wash our clothes and also purchase new luggage. All in all this was a very expensive problem, and we lost some nice luggage, shoes, and clothing in the process. When we booked it, there were no reviews stating an issue with bedbugs. However, a few weeks before we arrived, it appears another guest had the exact same issue. If we had known that before arriving, we would not have come to the property. It seems like the property did not take the proper precautions in dealing with the issue after being alerted about it, and it clearly has gotten worse since. We're lucky we noticed this when we did. Otherwise we might have brought the bugs home in our luggage with us and caused an infestation in our own home. We've had to hire bed bug dogs in our home city to ensure that we didn't bring any home with us. We, along with our friends, booked 2 rooms. In the property's defense, they immediately agreed to refund our room (but not our friends' room). Our room was the only one with evidence of bedbugs. I would recommend against staying here until the property has taken the necessary steps to definitively rid their place of bedbugs.

bedbugs and rude staff!!!! I have never tried such bad service. my mother and I were meet with a really rude attitude by the elder couple that own the place. the room was actually okay except for really moldy shower curtains. 10 minutes after going to bed I noticed a really really big bedbug crawling up on my shirt. I stood up and then saw that there were bedbugs everywhere. we quickly gathered our thing and went outside. I texted them and called their number over 10 times while we waited outside but they didn’t answer. the next day they finally wrote back but accused is of bringing the bedbugs and said that we needed to pay them for a special treatment of the room and said that he was going to report us. we went back to check out and get the last of our stuff, and when we got there he was really mad and had a really aggressive behavior, he didn’t want us to write to booking and when we didn’t want to go with him into the room he started yelling at us in Italian and saying we had bugs on us and in our luggage. we got out of there is fast as possible and where in total shocked.

This is a unique and fantastic hotel. The location is perfect, the staff is exceptional, the room is clean and comfortable, the breakfast was amazing. We felt welcomed and right at home. We highly recommend staying here to enjoy the hospitality and to experience history.

Great opportunity to stay in the heart of the old city in Matera. The room was cozy and comfortable.

At first, we were given too small of a room. Felt too claustrophobic. But the owners were awesome and moved us to a larger room. And it was absolutely amazing we loved it.

The property was well located and provided us with a "grotto" experience which is what the Sasso Barisano is about. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Everything was great. Especially the restaurant. The included breakfast was very good.

We recently stayed at Residence San Pietro Barisano and we were extremely disappointed with our experience. The hotel advertised that parking was included, but upon arrival, we discovered that this was not the case. We had sent an email inquiring about parking, but received no response. When we called the hotel, they informed us that they were too busy to reply to emails and we would have to park outside the city and either take a bus or walk to the residence. Upon entering our room, we immediately noticed a damp smell and the bedding felt cold and wet. When we brought this to the attention of the receptionist, they responded in an arrogant manner, claiming that there was no humidity in the room and that it was only cold. Furthermore, the bathroom was dusty and the toilet rolls had not been changed, with leftover rolls from previous guests still present. The breakfast offered at the hotel was very disappointing. The selection consisted of a few cakes, some yogurt, and Kellogg's cereal. The orange juice tasted extremely acidic and was not enjoyable at all. Additionally, the only non-sweet option for breakfast was a banana, which seemed to be a few days old. Overall, we cannot recommend this hotel. While the location is perfect, the subpar accommodations and unprofessional behavior of the reception staff made our stay unbearable. It simply was not worth the money.

The room itself was beautiful but the humidity in the room was unbearable. The air conditioning and dehumidifier in the room should always be left on so that all the humidity and smell is removed from the room. The furniture was damp along with the bed covers and pillows.
