Lovely hotel, wonderful room (Junior Suite in the Palazietta section). The location is great, but of course requires quite a few stairs even to get to breakfast, and it is a very nice breakfast buffet. But the stairs are worth it for the breathtaking view. Comfortable bed, ample-sized bathroom. Friendly and helpful staff. Easy walk (relatively easy) to the main sights of Matera. Parking is expensive (and was a bit hard to locate) but worthwhile, and the shuttle service brings you right to the hotel. Over all a wonderful experience. We would certainly stay here again if we return to Matera.

An outstanding hotel in a prime position with a great restaurant. We stayed in a luxury cave room which was well done. Breakfast was fantastic and the staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Overall we highly recommend. One thing to keep in mind is there are a lot of stairs and uneven surfaces which is true for all of the Sassi and Matera. Comfortable non-slip shoes are a must.

Fabulous - the hotel, the staff, the food. Really enjoyed our stay here. Staff were very attentive and helpful - not only during our stay, but also with a query I had after our return. Great location and amazing views from our room and balcony. Had dinner here one night as well and it was superb, both the food and the atmosphere. And the cappuccino and fresh squeezed orange juice at breakfast were perfect.

Good breakfast. Nice room, but chilly. Staff not coordinated or responsive. After asking twice, the heater could not be fixed in the bed and tube area. No room change offered or any form of compensation after a cold night and a cold shower in the morning . Not a 5 stars hotel standards in service

We truly enjoyed our cave. Against all odds, the room was not cold at all. The hotel restaurant and breakfast was excellent and the staff exceptionally smiley and polite. The kindness makes a difference, as pretty much nothing went as agreed (final bill was wrong, reservation for tours and pick was not made correctly etc). However, everything was eventually sorted out, and staying in the caves is for sure the best way to enjoy Sassi.

The hotel is in an excellent location, the view from the rooms is beautiful. The staff was helpful and kind, they were partners in everything. Delivery was also arranged from the parking garage. The hotel's restaurant is wonderful, breakfast and dinner are also fantastic. Thank You!

My Aunt and I stayed here two days in September. We ABSOLUTELY loved it. One of the coolest hotels ever. And I've stayed in a lot of amazing places in this world. Matera is a gem, ancient, different, beautiful. It's best early in the morning or at sunset as the tourists begin to leave. Our room overlooked the historic center, and we woke up to the bells chiming over the valley. We had a gorgeous terrace too! The soaps and shampoos were Ortiga, everything smelled awesome. The breakfast buffet was unbelievable - the best I had in Italy. But mostly the people - everyone who worked there was terrific. The woman at the front desk, was soooo gracious and helped us with everything. She had grown up in the area as well, very friendly and warm. Something so great for a luxury hotel. I would go back in a heart beat!

This hotel was booked for us via our agent. It was important to us that we had the experience of staying in a cave. Welcome - very pleasant staff and cases were taken to room for us. We felt we could have had a better explanation as to the facilities and how to use them (see lower down). Room - very nice, however we prefer a little more privacy when using the toilet. There was a sliding door that was tinted but still you could still see clearly through it. Bed was a little hard but expected as mattress was on a slab of stone. Hair drying facilities and sockets good. Very clean. Regiacorte Restaurant - As we were only staying a couple of nights, we decided to book the restaurant on both evenings. It was very busy and we could only get 9 pm on the first evening and 8.30 pm on the second. We arrived half an hour early on the first evening and thought we would be able to have a drink at the bar. It was all a bit confusing as the waiters spoke little english and did not really understand what we were asking. We were directed to a table and eventually served a drink. At 9 pm we had still not been directed to our table, so we went up to the next platform to ask staff. Also, although lovely to have a view, it was getting a little chilly. We got the impression that were expected to stay where we were, which was not comfortable. We asked to be sitting either inside or at the top, where there were some free tables and it was warmer (we found out the next day that they had a large eating area inside). We were abruptly taken inside by the head waiter and left standing by a table, in the wine cellar, with one chair. We stood for a while, feeling very embarrassed as there was only one table being used in there by a group. We decided to leave and walk outside, where we were followed and seated. We finally ate at around 10 pm. The food was good, apart from my husband's starter which looked thrown together. We did not believe it was value for money. In our opinion we could only see three staff working and they seemed overwhelmed. Due to our experience, we cancelled our booking for the next day. Breakfast - there was a lot of choice. We have been to a lot of very nice hotels. We felt that this one was not equipped to offer the standard they promised and was quit pretentious. Such a shame.
