Boutique Villa Unaweza

My husband and I stopped for lunch at this magical and intimate hotel. It has everything you need for a peaceful stay, including a lovely pool, excellent restaurant and bar, and beautiful garden surroundings. The white sand beach is just a short walk away. The owner is delightful and welcoming, ready and willing to assist you in any way. I highly recommend it!

What an absolutely stunning location to spend a few days or even weeks, the room was wonderful with everything you could possibly need, the bed was so comfortable with big fluffy pillows. A quiet mini resort perfect for a calm switch off vacation. Breakfast is served at a time conducive to total relaxation and is by far the best breakfast we ate in across all the accommodation we stayed in during our time in Zanzibar, everything is considered even the flies which are flicked away with the table fans. The pool is sufficient in size to accommodate the number of rooms with sunbed allocated to each room. Free yoga classes on the mezzanine floor are a perfect way to start/end the day. Shower was hot, toiletries are out of this world, a true sense of luxury. This hotel is situated a really, really short walk from the beach, is completely secure and I can't recommend it enough for anyone wanting to switch off and completely relax.

Stayed here for e nights and absolutely loved it. Spotlessly clean, comfy bed, beautiful decor, good pool. Staff are lovely and friendly, breakfast is superb, fruits, breads, choice of 5 different breakfast courses, coffee and juice. The grounds are lovely. the place has a really chilled vibe about it. There's not much to do in Matenwe apart from walking on the beach and relaxing, and Villa Unaweza makes you want to do exactly that, relax. Villa has a great restaurant and bar area, and the beach is no more than a minutes walk away.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Its close to the beach but not directly on the beach and it has a great pool area. The rooms were spacious and modern. I found that it lacked shelving or bench space for your luggage and there wasn't enough space for unpacking so your stuff ended up on the floor, but that was a minor detail. The pool area is the highlight of the hotel with lots of space to relax and close enough to the bar and restaurant area. The staff are helpful, especially Silvie who offers complimentary yoga classes and is knowledgable on tours and activities. I must say that the restaurant was overpriced for what they were offering and food took almost an hour to prepare (even frozen pizza bases) - also, we were a group of 10 and their kitchen couldn't cope with the orders for all 10 of us - so we never got our food together. By the time the last person received their food, the first person had been finished their dinner for a good 30 minutes.

It was not my first stay in Zanzibar; I was now looking for boutique hotel options in the friendly village of Matemwe because of its beautiful quiet beach and proximity to Mnemba Atoll. After some online research, I was attracted to the option of Villa Unaweza because of their great website and great online reviews! So, from my very recent experience there, Villa Unaweza is a beautiful new boutique hotel; everything is fresh and clean. There is a wonderful attention-to-detail with the interior design and décor. Also the hotel’s exterior areas and gardens are surrounded by carefully tended native flora and fauna. The Staff are amazing and clearly very well trained. The Hotel Manager, Sylvia, and her Team are professional, friendly and helpful. They all knew the wider local area around Matemwe very well, and had a great knowledge of Zanzibar in general. I was particularly impressed with the friendliness and professionalism of the restaurant staff including Sharif and Mongola, who exhibited knowledgeable guidance about the menu options in the Unaweza restaurant. The restaurant’s food was amazing and very well prepared, both at breakfast and dinner. There was a good range of local and European food options on the restaurant’s menu, with a big selection of local freshly caught seafood too. The lovely tropical pool at the hotel was really well maintained, and, happily for me, the bar was very close-by..! I admit that I enjoyed many drinks from the cocktail-menu whilst relaxing in the hotel’s pool! All-in-all, a wonderful stay at Villa Unaweza. Will I return there…? …yes, of course..!

We have just returned from 2 weeks stay at Villa Unaweza in Matemwe, Zanzibar. Beautiful brand new hotel with a nice, large swimming pool, situated just a minute walk from the Matemwe Beach. Extremely accomodating, no request was unanswered - every member of staff was delightful and eager to help! Our room was spacious, clean, air-conditioned, and very comfortable. The restaurant with fantastic, freshly prepared, and beautifully presented food. The owners and the staff very welcoming, they truly went above and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Zanzibar. We will definitely return!
