We booked the Fort Road Hotel at the last minute to spend two nights visiting friends—a trip we make annually—and decided to try this hotel for the first time. We stayed in a Sea View Superior room, which was very comfortable and offered a stunning view of the sea. With air conditioning, it was even more enjoyable! I requested a few extras, like an extra pillow, and all were happily accommodated. On the first morning, my husband enjoyed the included breakfast and raved about the buffet. Best of all, it was served until 11:30 AM, which was perfect for our late-morning routine! 🤩 The next day, I joined him, and we both had a cooked breakfast that was absolutely superb. The fruit and entire buffet exceeded the quality found in many 5‑star hotels we’ve stayed in over the years. The location couldn’t be better—just a short walk into the Old Town of Margate, with wonderful local bars and restaurants nearby, and directly opposite the Turner Contemporary gallery. We regularly choose 5‑star hotels, and I’m quite particular—but Fort Road ticked every box: friendly and helpful staff, locally sourced food, and excellent comfort throughout. The hotel also has a 35‑seat ground‑floor restaurant and a basement bar with a roof terrace for guests only. They also have an on‑site Mediterranean restaurant, Colina, offering fresh, fish-forward seasonal dishes in a relaxed setting, highly praised by local diners. OpenTable We didn’t get time to try it this stay, but we’re eager to on our next visit—and we’ve already recommended it to many local friends in Margate. 🙌🏼 Thanks to all the front‑of‑house staff and housekeepers for making our stay so comfortable. We will be back!

Great hotel, fantastic location, beautifully done up with absolutely lovely staff. They recommended The Buoy and Oyster for lunch - outstandingly good again with terrific staff. And we got into Angela's for supper - wonderful and again with fantastic staff. The big disappointment was the Turner museum - only 1 Turner beautifully displayed, but the rest of it looked like it had been curated by some kids out of kindergarten. Town full of tourists who'd obviously made the trip to Margatee for the museum - felt so sorry for them, as well as myself.

Nice room, friendly helpful but very expensive. The room is an ok size, nicely furnished, good amenities but there is no air conditioning and no TV in the rooms! The windows only open 2” at the top so it’s a bit stuffy and hot in the summer - a fan just isn’t sufficient. The breakfast is also on the skinny side - a continental which is a basically granola and bread and jam with a bit of ham and cheese. The owners should go to France, Spain, Italy and see what you get for the money. I stayed in Antibes this year in a similar type hotel and it was cheaper and the breakfast far more copious. I was charged £3.60 for a cappuccino as only the filter coffee is included in the breakfast whereas in Europe the machine in out in the breakfast area and you just help yourself. It all felt a bit money grabbing and mean.

Very good hotel with plenty to like: clean, excellent bed/linen, quality furnishings, side entrance, air conditioning. All of which makes the decision to charge for cooked breakfast items a bit strange. Choices were also very limited and expensive: full English around £18, eggs and toast £8, and a special of avo/eggs toast £10. For a place that has very high standards and isn't cheap, I'd expect better. Having said that what was provided in the "continental" buffet was delicious.

We were looking for somewhere to stay for a short break from London and luckily hit on Margate's Fort Road Hotel. Recently renovated in an artistic but understated style, very comfortable bed, luxurious (local) products in the bathroom, super friendly and helpful staff, and great location: sea views; the Turner Contemporary in view and like the Harbour Arm just minutes away; and short walks to the main beach, the old town and the paths to Cliftonville. The continental breakfast - one of the best hotel breakfasts we've come across - is included in the room price, with muesli prepared overnight, freshly pressed orange juice and great local ham and cheese. Cooked English breakfast and eggs are extra. This just ticked all the boxes!

Quietly excellent. Not flashy, but look closely and you see that everything is done with care and good taste. The restaurant was superb. Comfy bed. Very tasteful bathroom. Excellent quality breakfast. Lots of interesting books and original artwork. Good quality furniture and furnishings. My only note for improvement is that the roof terrace is a little spartan, could do with a few pot plants. A very fine hotel and good value considering the top notch quality

The hotel is nice and well kept although this may be because it is still new. Noisy because of the age of the building and the way it is furnished. Room was small but stylish, personally the ‘toilet paper only’ sign above the toilet in the bathroom had a travelodge vibe that was disappointing. The included breakfast is okay, if like myself you don’t eat overnight oats regularly the over nights are a treat. Something was missing for us, it didn’t quite have that touch of class they are trying to portray but overall a nice experience. Parking was easy although I image on a weekend it is more difficult to find a space. Thanks to the staff who were pleasant and helpful. I mentioned in our booking that it was my partner’s 30th birthday. When we previously went away for my 30th the staff at the hotel we stayed at wished me a happy birthday on arrival. It didn’t cost anything and set the tone for a celebratory get a way, just a thought. We did get an ‘upgrade’ although it wasn’t clear why that was and we didn’t really notice anything elevated about the room over the one we had booked.
