Our stay at the Scarborough Inn was very disappointing. The problem began with the checkin process. There is no staff onsite, despite posted hours and the checking is through online video to an overseas company. The person who assisted had a very heavy accent and the entire process was very complex and took entirely too long. The room was nat as it appeared in the web site photos. It is best described as tacky, with mismatched furniture and minimal storage. Daily housekeeping is provided only on request, although there is no notification of that policy. We were fortunate to have found out through a very helpful housekeeper (who communicated with us through a simultaneous translation app on her phone.) She alerted us to a phone number, written in pencil and posted on the lobby door, that we should call to request housekeeping. We did so, but she never received the request and fortunately we saw her the next day and she took care of our needs. The walls are thin, and we could hear normal conversation from the room next door. The railing on the porch outside our room was broken, and someone could easily have fallen and been injured. Finally, the checkout process was completely bizarre, as the remote clerk was unable to enable audio, so we had to communicate entirely by gesture. It is evident that the management is completely absent and uninterested in providing the most basic support for guests. We will not stay here again, and do not recommend the Scarborough Inn to anyone looking for a place to stay in Manteo.
