We love this pub! The staff and customers are really friendly and there's always a good vibe with a bit of banter thrown in. On a recent visit, we were tempted by one of the day's specials - pan fried salmon with mushroom, white wine and samphire risotto. We knew from experience that the portions are generous, so my partner and i shared the plate and sat at the communal table where anyone could join us if they wanted. The food was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and the combination of flavours was amazing. The quality of ingredients and skills of the chef shone through. We left the place feeling full, very happy with our impromptu meal out, and with a small portion of left overs for our lunch the next day. Thank you guys - we look forward to being tempted by your menu again.

Called ahead on a Sunday for confirmation of food availability, all good. Pleasant welcome and ordered drinks and food. Very very conscious though of a family with young children running up and down the entrance corridor playing noisy chase games and "playing" the piano. Food main course was excellent and we would have ordered more drinks and a sweet but decided to leave due to the lack of parental control of the children, sad.

Called here today for my favourite lite bite cod and chips. Unfortunately the portion of fish resembled a fish bite, it was a third of the size of previous portions. At £13 it wasn't good value. The sticky toffee pudding was lovely and the pub is in a beautiful location.

Having been told that Sunday lunch was a great idea for a group,we were all a little disappointed ☹️ ,Staff were friendly but didn’t really seem to work together & everything was a little disjointed with our meals

We booked a table for two for lunch on Sunday 1st. of October at 1:45 pm. We arrived and were greeted by friendly staff and taken to our table in the smallish dining room already occupied by another couple and a lone diner. We also noticed that there was a long table prepared for about 20 diners which dominated the room but we didn’t realise that it would be fully occupied within about half an hour. It was, however, and the noise was predictably loud and unsettling. I ordered the roast chicken option but my wife was unable to order the roast beef as it wasn’t available so she also ordered the chicken option. The food arrived and the portions were quite generous but consisted mainly of vegetables with only a few small slices of chicken. The plates were topped with two or three large Yorkshire puddings which were presumably left over from the roast beef meal and these were crispy and tasteless. The vegetables were later described to us as “al dente” but the broccoli spears, swede and parsnips in particular were almost raw. There was very little of the promised red wine jous/gravy which , in any case, was thin and tasteless. The bottle of Malbec we ordered was priced at £23 but would probably retail for about £5. All in all we were both hugely disappointed with the whole experience.

Just had Lunch here. It was amazing. The staff were so helpful, friendly and professional. The food was excellent. We like the idea of offering smaller portions. Beer battered onion rings - superb. Compliments to all your staff. Definitely our new go to place. Thank you.

Although we only stayed for a couple of nights on our way to and from Ireland, will give serious consideration to going back for a longer stay. Very comfortable, good-sized bedroom with beautifully appointed ensuite shower room. Decent food and drink served by efficient and friendly staff with breakfast deserving special mention. Lovely garden and outside area ideal for summer sunshine refreshments and large car-park. Great for dog-owners being right next to a riverside walk, a walk through beautiful woodland (which eventually leads to another watering hole) and only a couple of miles from the fantastic, large, dog-friendly beach at Newport. Great, all-round hospitality in a beautiful part of the world - we will be back!

Accommodation : beautiful room, spotlessly clean, super comfy bead with an amazing power shower. Beautiful breakfast in with the price. Pub: bit dated and lacking atmosphere, could really do with some updating and brightening up. Beer garden was scruffy and unkempt. No gin glasses, presentation was overall poor. Young bar staff were openly using bad language while my husband and I sat there, which was unacceptable. Meals were very tasty, but not the large portions spoken about on previous reviews. We ate out second night. Overall good value for a stop over just a bit disappointed with what could be a cracking pub.

Been here a lot. Lovely aspect. Twice i have visited and its closed without explanation. The last time ordered and paid for food to be told later they haven't got what i ordered. SHAME. Refund seemed a problem but happened after a wait. A great place to visit but dont expect to much. Staff dont know how to smile but you can camp in carpark if you buy a pint. Then you will have means of making food.
