I chose this place because it was the cheapest and I paid the price. Don’t do it, spring for another £30 for peace of mind. The owner was a nightmare to deal with as well. Avoid unless you are really, really desperate. Assume the 5 star reviews are fake.

Don’t stay here. It’s disgustingly filthy. Even if you’re desperate, sleep in a doorway or a bus shelter, it will be cleaner. I got there too late to book anywhere else The sheets hadn’t been changed, so had to “sleep” sitting up in my clothes as there was no way I way lying down on that, there were empty crisp packets under the bed, the whole room was covered in mould, there was a back door that had obviously been smashed and was boarded up. I’ve seen squats that were cleaner. Haven’t responded to complains, obvs happy they got the money and don’t care.

The previous poor reviews just show me that the managers have taken them to heart and made a real effort to improve the place. The sheets were thoroughly laundered and smelled nice and fresh, the bathroom was clean, and you can see the redecoration they’ve made to the house as a whole. It’s in a quiet part of town away from the noise of the nightlife, so I’ve had a good nights sleep on each evening that I had stayed there. They deserve another chance and I highly recommend Birchfields guest house as a place to stay in Manchester.
