We stayed here in July 2025 for 3 nights with our 2 little ones. After a drive from the airport and navigating the bumpy roads we arrive to a little slice of heaven. The kids jumped out of the taxi and started digging at the reception hut! That's pretty much what they did for the 3 days after as the whole place is built around sand and walking barefoot. It is very coastal, open, makuti thatched, rustic, breezy, laid back, and forces you to relax! The room Suli Suli was fabulous. Much bigger than we expected and the giant bed enough for all 4 of us. Plenty of space for bags and a large veranda with a swing bed. You leave your room open as its all perfectly safe and leave the kids to play outside digging! Food and service is really good. Everything made fresh to order. They ask you what you want for lunch in advance and at what time so the kitchen can prepare accordingly. I felt this was a really good touch for dinner and lunch. All the staff inc room maids were fantastic. They really went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable. The main dining and bar area is fabulous. Very laid back with many dhow boats dotted around the place perfect for kids to scramble in and out of. With the beach clear of rubbish or seaweed and sparkling with gold! its a magical spot on the coast. If you want some rustic living for a few days this is the place for you and I know we will return in the future.

An amazing property, super relaxed without compromising on service. Brilliant family destination, delicious food, beautiful unspolit beach! We had such an amazing time for 7 day trip over new years with 2 other families - that we came back for a mid-week escape, just a few weeks later (from southern African country) Loved it so much we are planning our trip for January 2026, to all learn how to kite surf!

This was the second time we went to Che Shale and our second visit left us with the same feeling of charm as our first visit. This time around we stayed for Christmas and imported 5 young adults and a young boy, together with 3 senior adults. We all loved our time there: the peace and quiet of the place, coupled with the ease to get to Malindi/Watamu/Kalifi and Tsavo, the amazing seafood (those soft shell crabs!!), the bandas, and the super nice crew all contributed to a detoxification from modern life, feeling chilled, forgetting time and having a rest of the mind and of the body. If you are looking for a 5-star resort with an international brand and a sanitized version of Kenya, Che Shale is not for you. If you are looking to relax and enjoy the simpler things of life of a more genuine place, Che Shale is definitely for you. We will come back!!

Actually, I have visited Che Shale around 7 times: with my husband, my friends and alone. I deffinitely advise to visit this place as it is the best beach hotel in Kenya. This place is like small paradies hidden from outsiders. It is very calm and peacefull. No beach boys at all! The beach is very clean and sun lounges are very comfortable. You always can swim in the ocean, regadless of the ebb and flow of the tides. The bandas may seem simple, but at the same time have everything you need. The food and coctails are amazing. I've tried all the dishes from the menu, and very dish is simply delicious. You will also be pleasantly surprised be the prices. And, of course, if you are in Che Shale, you must try the crabs: in both soft and hard shells! And I would like to especially note the work of the staff: the cleaning ladies, the waiters - everyone is very welcoming, friendly, client oriented. They will make your rest comfortable and peacefull. If you would lile to enjoy the nature, the ocean, the delicious food, calm and relaxing atmosphere with your friends, family, children, then Che Shale is the best choice for you!

We had an incredible stay at Che Shale. The owners are highly communicative, friendly and accommodating. The setting is beautiful and the banda was both lovely and comfortable. Che Shale organized a deep sea fishing experience for us and we caught 10 yellowfin! We cant wait to return.

Just back from one of most wonderful and relaxing breaks at Che Shalet. Our hosts, Justin & Gussy and their full team could not have been more charming and helpful, excellent food and cocktails in one of the most perfect Kenyan beach settings, that happens to be one of the best kite surfing beaches in Africa with their own excellent kite surfing instructor Omar, who even managed to teach a 66 year old like me to kite surf! Accommodation is in beautiful authentic wooden and thatch bandas, discreetly dotted close to the beach. If you are looking for a beautiful beach setting, well a way from the hustle and bustle of normal life you would be hard pushed to beat the vibe and atmosphere Che Shale and the wonderful team have to offer, many thanks Justin, Gussy and your whole team!
