This budget hostel is good for those solo travellers. The place is clean and vintage. Not as fancy as others but good enough for what I paid for. The AC is cold and there is a hot and cold shower too. Close to shops to eat and go around the River of Lights. A quiet place to relax and sleep after a long walk. The wifi is reliable too. Not for the fussy travellers.

The lone staff seems overworked when multiple checkins occur. The other non-staff older chinese man on site was rude, uninformed, had no information or phone numbers and had no role except taking up space and being antaganistic as far as I can determine.
It would be great to have available boiled water.
Very very basic, but great location!

Very kind owner with a lovely dog. I really enjoyed my stay, the bedroom was clean, a place was neat and In the superb location close to everything in Malacca. Very much recommended.

As was to be expected, this is a very basic place and after reading many other reviews about the noise from the road, I was prepared for that.
And it's true: you won't be able to get a proper sleep at Discovery Guest House. Too much noise from the road. Bathroom not clean and piss all over the toilet seat (at 2pm, and in the evening it was still like that).
Good things: towel provided, AC in the room (but swing mode broken), hot shower and friendly girl at check-in. Location right in the historic centre.
But if you want to sleep properly in Melaka, you'll need to spend some serious cash. As a budget traveler, you will most likely get sleepless nights, in any cheap place.
