Great hotel. We stayed after our visit to the Observatory. Yes rooms aren’t huge but it’s an old forge - an old building with character. Our room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed including plenty of storage. Extra biscuits, tea and coffee available in baskets on landing. We were made extremely welcome by our hosts and nothing was too much trouble . Breakfast was superb with granola, fruit, pastries and a really delicious full English. Would 100% stay here again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend

Perfect little gem of a hotel that enabled us to visit the local observatory during a night skies night. Rooms are reasonable to small sized (we had a twin) but the fittings are exceptional quality and the rooms were spotless. All the comforts were provided - including a bowl of sweets! We stayed for an incredible breakfast with home made preserves and fresh fruit. (Oh and fried bread!! and naughty treat! ) Can heartily recommend.

We were looking for somewhere to stay whilst visiting family in the area. Had previously tried a number of places that we felt were distinctly average. This trip we decided to try The Olde Forge Hotel at Magham Down near Hailsham. The communication and correspondence from Phillip the owner was excellent. Ahead of the trip he communicated with us and ensured that we felt we would receive a great welcome and would have an enjoyable stay. We were not disappointed! Phillip and Nicky were most welcoming and clearly care about their customers and their business. The food at breakfast was excellent (Poached Eggs fantastic). The room was bright and clean and the facilities in the room were very good. We stayed for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. We would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and we look forward to visiting again later in the year.

Warm, welcoming and great location. We all came away for the weekend and the hotel was a lovely base for exploring Sussex. Free and safe parking, fantastic menu for dinner, delicious and piping hot, choice of many pastries, fruit, cereal and hot breakfast with as much juice and coffee you want. We liked having a relax and a drink in the bar before dinner and the hosts Phil and Nicky gave us lots of tips on where to visit. Puppy friendly too so that was a bonus. Lovely country walk around two farms opposite the hotel. Great stay.

We had a fabulous stay for two nights, the room was small but really comfy, we had everything we needed and they even catered for our dog. The couple were really welcoming and friendly and our dog was allowed to come to breakfast with us. The breakfast was superb. Nicky even gave me some of her fabulous jam to take home. She certainly should sell jars of this. Would certainly stay again. Thanks xxx

Make sure you don't arrive before 4 o'clock or you will receive a rough reception with the owner. Being a hotel we thought we could have a drink and wait for our room. The owner just annoyed and spoke to us rudely. He was understandbly stressed because of his wife, but there is no need for rudeness.

This is a homely and comfortable family run hotel in a convenient location for exploring East Sussex. What really makes it special, though, is the individual service you receive - where nothing is too much trouble. The food is of a really good quality, plentiful, and cooked to order by co-owner and chef Phil. They also accommodated my food allergies, which was much appreciated. This is a bijou hotel of only 8 bedrooms and would be good for celebrating a family occasion.
