We liked this place very much. It's beautifully located on the River Lyn just a short walking distance from the centre of the pretty village. Our hosts Russell and Nicki were very helpful and keen to assist us with our exploration of the area. Our room was excellent and breakfast was great! It was very pleasant sitting on the front porch and watching the river go by. It's also interesting to turn left at the front door (instead of right, into town) to stroll upstream into the steep and beautiful forested countryside. Our accommodation was booked by Macs Adventures, which organised our South West Coast Path Walk and we absolutely applaud their choice!

Russel & Nicki were wonderful hosts and a mine of information about the surrounding area and its history. We enjoyed four relaxing days with them, eating their magnificent breakfast and exploring the surrounding area. The room was comfortable and it was a delight to be able to hear the river from our bedroom. Thank you.

We stayed at Lorna Doone w/c 8th April 2024 in Room 9 (second floor). We previously stayed there 10+ years ago, and we thought it was time to go back and visit Lynmouth. We like to go and visit/explore different places (usually new ones for us) hence why it took us so long to go back there. When we booked our room we found out that the previous owners had left 6 years (!) previously and that Russell and Nicky had taken over the B&B. We thought it doesn’t matter, the ‘new’ owners have been here 6 years so they must be doing something right! Russell welcomed us in and after chatting about breakfast and facilities, he showed us to our room. It was lovely, a big king size bed (two singles put together) and really comfortable. The room was bright and welcoming. The en-suite shower room had a window, which is rare in B&B/Hotel accommodation and something that I like as it allows some air flow between the bedroom and the bathroom. Moving on to breakfast. The evening/morning before you are handed over a sheet where you choose your breakfast. This is a good way of preventing waste. You tick all the items you would like to have at breakfast the following morning, instead of being presented with a full plate of English breakfast (if that’s what you like) and only eating half of it with the leftover going in the bin. It seems that Russell was in charge of cooking the breakfast and Nicky was being ‘mother’ (I think that’s how the expression goes). Perfectly cooked poached eggs, sausages, bacon, black pudding, mushrooms, etc… Delicious apple juice (I would have liked more but didn’t want to seem too greedy!). My other half got chatting to other friendly guests, he’s the chatterbox in our couple, takes after his mother! If that’s your thing, there is a path going up to Watersmeet (coffee stop on the way up and cream tea stop on the way back! Although there are places you can have cream tea at Lynmouth too) and beyond. We were hoping to have a beer at the Rockford Inn but the electricity cables were being changed on the street and so the pub was closed. Pity. On our last evening we went to the Old Merchant, and unbeknown to us, the local shanty singers group was there and started to sing, there was a bucket going around as they were raising money to build a boathouse on the sea front. Despite some of the songs having the lyrics ‘down with the French’ (I didn’t take it personally!), it was a really enjoyable evening and we stayed longer than we would have otherwise and contributed to the bucket takings! Our big surprise was that our host (Russell) was one of the singers and what a strong voice he had! Very impressed! So all in all, we had a lovely stay. Lorna Doone is a really convenient place to be and we have already recommended it to friends. Nicky and Russell will recommend places to eat, most are within walking distance so very handy if you don’t want to drink and drive. I don’t know when we will be back, as, as I’ve mentioned above, we

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lorna Doone House in Lynmouth. Our hosts, Nicky and Russell, were very warm and welcoming and our room was delightful. The house is perfectly situated to explore the villages of both Lynmouth and Lynton on foot. We both had a great sleep and eagerly consumed Nicky’s delicious breakfasts each morning. Thanks for an awesome stay!

We stayed on night in this Bed and Breakfast at the end of a week hiking the Coleridge Way. The owners were very helpful in getting us settled that night and on our way home the next morning. The bedroom was one of the nicest we'd seen. The next day's breakfast was great.

As always, an absolute delight to return to the Lorna Doone for another 6 night stay - and to Nicky and Russell. It's 270 miles from our house to theirs, so it's a delight to arrive to the gently tumbling river and to be able to park (a serious issue in Lynmouth) right next to the house - a rarity, I can tell you. The room (Room 4) is spacious, very bright and clean and has a walk-in-shower (rather important, for a disabled person) and has 2 windows looking out over the front - and thus at the tumbling river. Breakfast is always freshly prepared and hot (if cooked!), and plenty of it. We have no complaints whatsoever. Lynmouth is situated at the bottom of a rather steep, windy road, and about 500 feet below the small town of Lynton, which you can access from the Cliff Lift - about 10 minutes walk from the B&B. We find it useful to be able to go off in all directions (other than the sea) to local towns and attractions - so yes, we'll be back - and am pleased to rate this as one of two B&B#s that we regularly stay at that are highly rated - because they deserve it. Well done, guys - and we'll see you next year. Shelagh and Sam Mason
