Montinho de Ouro

The place is nice and remote and very peaceful. We stayed here during the first week of August. The staff work hard and they look after their guests. It’s obvious they take pride and it really shows. The rooms can vary, some are very nice, especially near the pool. They are more like studio rooms and very spacious. Both rooms we had also had a TV and a fridge. Quite a few reviews mention having a car. I recommend this, I thought I could get away without a car hire but later regretted it. Although saying that Bolt, Uber and FreeNow were great apps for cabs and the fares were crazy cheap. There is a 30 min walk to get to the beach, just check Apple/Google maps (we ignored the ‘private’ sign as it was a public path anyway :P Pros: - Wonderful staff - Peaceful location - Beautiful scenery - Amazing pool - Excellent rooms (ones we had 1 and 2) - Breakfast was ok - Manager lady is super helpful - Air-con - Fridge (for nice cold drinks) - Secure gated access Cons: - You need a car ideally - Some rooms didn’t look too great - Breakfast was ok - No dinner (although we did find out there was dinner if you asked, they would tell you what was available that evening) - No shops for quite a distance (if no car) I know I listed some cons, but they are more of guidance to take precautions like hire a car, get snacks and drinks from the local Spar, etc.. I loved our stay here, it was wonderful.

The bed was also good, with hard mattress that was well. Bath towels etc were regularly cleaned etc Breakfast super cared very extensive, with also Portuguese specialities. (ma, woe, free) Hotel very beautifully built field with palm trees, flowers and fruit trees etc beautiful seats,3 swimming pools etc. The cliffs with sea view are almost in the backyard, wonderfully! Tip: You really want to explore the surrounding area rent a car or scooter. Unless you keep walking from long distances or are an experienced mountain biker. ( mountainous sometimes stylish area) Bus stop is nearby but bus ride takes long and sometimes departs time. We have done a lot with the taxi that is absolutely not expensive.Reception calls them even if you want. Some tips: •excursion dolphins spots in Lagos( come close to the boat) •Cavetour excursion through and along the cliffs in Lagos by sailboat •daybeach in Praia da Luz where a boulevard is with market tents and good restaurants Top time has been here - That's a good memory.

Breakfast is delicious. Egg tarts and espresso are the best. Sunrise can be seen from the front of the room.

My mum, daughter & I absolutely loved staying here. It’s calm, relaxed & spacious. The family & Luno are nothing but hospitable. Great Galloa (milky coffee) so very clean, the bed sheets are soft & smell lovely. Brazilian cleaner was sweet & we loved the room, bright & airy. Powerful aircon (not that we used much as room 42 was cool enough) & Wi-Fi is excellent!!! Fridge is cold & helpful to store essentials. Brekkie is good. Walk down hill to spar for your supplies, walk back up is hard but think of the exercise, hee!! 20 mins both ways. Beautiful Burgau just down the road, definitely worth going. Alice’s ice cream in Sagres. So much to see, it’s an absolute dream. My sister lives close & the family allowed them to pop back & for, we did discuss first. I love Portugal all the more because of this place ❤️

Just so people know what the hotel rooms come with, Hair dryer, towels, safe (Need to pay a deposit for), Wifi (10 euros for the week), air conditioning, coat hangers, extra pillows and duvet covers, plus hand towels and soap. I wouldn't recommend in January. Not due to the hotel but because the majority of the town is closed. Still, the beach is a few minute walk which has lovely sand beaches. The hotel itself is pretty decent, keep in mind it was nearly empty when I went. Alisson, who works in the restaurant, served me in the breakfast and dinner 6/7 times. He is lovely polite and friendly. One issue with the hotel is that for dinner you get the no choice of starter, as it was a different soup each night, and then a choice between fish, pork and chicken for a main (Which you have to make the choice at breakfast) The food was normally pretty good. Just so you know that the drinks you get with dinner you are charged at when you leave the hotel at the end of your stay. Breakfast was a buffet which offered cooked meats and eggs, cold meats and different bread types. There was a girl on the front desk most of the time, Danielle, she was kind enough to sort us out a new room when we were having issues (room was freezing) she also booked taxis for the local zoo. Overall the stay was really enjoyable and the relaxing week away that was needed. 4/5 stars. Maybe 5 if there was a little more choice with dinner.
