on a West Sumatra motorcycle road trip, i decided to put the UNESCO World Heritage town of Sawahlunto on the agenda, for a couple of nights; the Inna Ombilin Heritage Hotel was the obvious choice of accommodation, as it proposes a strategic location at a reasonable rate... what a privilege it is, to be able to stay in a conservation historical building, at the heart of town, with all the amenities a touring biker would be looking for after a day spent on the road: a well appointed room with a view, a safe parking spot for the bike... not to forget the espresso & juice terrace bar... the hotel personnel went out of their way to make my stay memorable, with the Front Office arranging for example a guide to climb the morning view hill behind the hotel, and with the Hotel Manager explaining the challenges faced when operating a star-rated hotel within strict heritage regulations... the Tourist Office is located right next to the hotel, providing leaflets and maps... a fair bit of sightseeing can be done on foot, like for example the Railway Museum and the nearby central town square in front of the mining office, which starts to gets lively at the end of the afternoon... i will definitely be back!
