Luma Casa de Montaña

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our Argentina Tour. This is a stunning property, boutique style so only 8 rooms which made for a lovely tranquil stay. The views are amazing and we felt very relaxed while we were here. It’s about a 25 minute walk to downtown, as the hotel only offered a snack menu we went into town for dinner in the evenings. If they could offer more food choices in the evening I’m sure many would stay here for dinner rather than trek into town, I know we would have. It was exceptionally clean throughout the property. We really enjoyed our stay here and had a very restful 3 days.

It is indeed a truly fabulous location, with dreamy views and a potentially wonderful, Italian inspired house/boutique hotel. What could be better we thought, with reviews also appearing to be excellent. Sadly, on closer scrutiny virtually no reviews have been shared since 2020. However, we entered with high expectations. This was the only hotel out of the 8 hotels we stayed in, which did not offer a warm welcome: how was our journey - no water, let alone a welcome drink. A cursory introduction to our bedroom room but no proper induction as to what the hotel or area had to offer. The bedroom was huge with an equally huge bathroom and two lovely French doors. A fabulous view. It could and should have scored a 9/10 if it weren’t for some damp/maintenance issues where the paint had pealed. A shame but we were still prepared to overlook as maybe just an unfortunate maintenance over-sight. The bed and bedding were good quality & very comfortable but sadly the bath towels were not changed during our 3 night stay. No mention it being because of sustainability etc. We discovered that the hotel had a potentially lovely spa area but again, poor maintenance with damp/pealing paint. The swimming pool was too warm, as it still appeared to be heated, which was unnecessary in our view. The vast decking area was again potentially, a lovely place to relax, but was in fact in dire need of replacing. Some particularly dangerous, jagged planks were very evident. The same was the case outside two of the other bedrooms, and someone set about replacing most of the balcony boards whilst we were sitting relaxing by the pool on a Sunday afternoon. Not great. Breakfast was adequate but only on our final day did we discover by chance that we could request eggs. A missed opportunity. The drinks menu seemed extensive but in reality only a limited amount of wines were actually available. There was a limited choice of a Beefeater Gin or a local gin but by the second night, there was only the local gin which was not “recommended” . We can’t speak highly enough of German and Ornella who worked the evening shifts. Although we didn’t make a fuss about the gin, they ensured that there was a choice of two branded gins for the following evening. They single-handedly helped to make us feel like valued guests which otherwise we certainly didn’t. Our initial and remaining impression was that this establishment is neither loved nor well managed. In fact, it doesn’t seem to be managed at all, as the “manager “ appears to work only one shift/day a week. Everything is totally reactive. It could and should be 5 star with its privileged location, a beautiful building and personable staff who just require some leadership and competent management to know what good, and ideally, outstanding customer service looks like. Shame the owners and the manager don’t seem to see what a wasted opportunity there is here. We left feeling rather sad and deflated.
