There was no cleaning or any care of the facilities, although the man was very careful, but everything was very dirty.

It's okay, but someone in the public toilet didn't pay attention to hygiene and got 💩 on the toilet, and it wasn't cleaned in time.

This isn't a hotel, more a slum...it's filthy but I guess the sheets were clean. It is nothing like the photos, everything about this place is worse than tired, it should be shut down! Not staying for breakfast, god only knows what the kitchens are like! My skin is crawling whilst writing this... I have travelled a lot and this is by far the absolute worst place I have ever stayed...am not even sure it complies with fire regs! AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Good location, friendly staff. Room not in rentable condition. Green water coming out tap, other tap did not work at all. Curtain missing from one window. Thick layer of dust in places on carpet. No remote to operate TV despite requesting one.

Brilliant location , excellent for money - staff very helpful and nice . Has a nice cozy feel and very decorative . The continental breakfast was at the perfect time and has a wide variety of food to choose from including fresh fruits and gluten free bread . A secret gem in the heart of London !!!

Absolutely horrendous place. People are nice but the place is filthy, terrible rooms. Avoid at all costs. Some basic rules of running a business like this is to keep it clean, keep on top of maintenance. Avoid rooms 30 (a cupboard) and room 1, doors slamming all night Please at least get a soft close on your doors Arran House Hotel

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel, after reading reviews on here. I booked a single room, it looked newly decorated , bed was very clean and comfortable, small ensuite bathroom was spotless with toiletries and plenty of toilet paper provided. The room had tea and coffee and even a small fridge. Only downside was there was nowhere to hand clothes or coats, and there was some dust on table surfaces and the skirting board. I don't understand why people have mentioned caravan toilets, it is a normal compact toilet in an ensuite bathroom. I was right next to the kitchen so was woken early when that started up, but otherwise fine. Breakfast included pastries, cereal, bread for toast, cheese, tomato and hard boiled eggs, yoghurt and hot drinks and juices, all very nice. Great for a night or two, given there is nowhere to hang clothes in that particular room, (I fed this back to the staff)and fantastic price for that area of London. I have seen others have said they had an old and tired room, but I think the hotel is renovating the rooms at the moment. I would stay here again if I needed to stay for work like this time, but please put some coat hooks or something in the room

The pictures on the site look much better than the reality. Our double room was up 6 or 7 flights of stairs (no lift). The rest of our party were put in the basement. The bedroom window was broken. En-suite was just a tiny caravan type toilet and shower cubicle in a small cupboard. There was no hot water. Bed was very uncomfortable, hard and very lumpy. Breakfast was an absolute joke. No hot food.

Not a good choice. With single rooms in Central London you get used to small beds and small rooms. But unfortunately this is still a really bad example. The bed was tiny with a small flat pillow and a very warm duvet despite the heating being on high. But the bathroom was the low light. The shower was approx 60cm square with a tired curtain across two sides. That's about the size of a kitchen cupboard. After a bad night's sleep you want a decent shower but no chance of that here. There are better budget hotels in the neighbourhood. Use them.

The decor and furnishings are battered, and no - probably not three star, more B&B - but the room was clean and comfortable and warm. Staff friendly and efficient. No hassle check-in. Shared bathroom but reasonably big and I appreciated wash-basin in the room. Good breakfast - lots of choice. WiFi worked. Good value for the money I paid. I’ve stayed overnight in many places for work in Bloomsbury. This was good value for money: if want some more standard hotel chain experience this well located in London- then honestly you expect to pay a whole lot more..

Not really sure how this place has 3 stars, it's more like a 2. The decor is horrible - dusty ugly old dark carpets, peeling wallpaper, creaking floorboards, horrible old furniture. It basically just feels like once upon a time was quite posh but it just hasn't had anything updated in about 30 years. There's radiators where half the paint has flaked off, broken tiles in the bathroom walls, and the flush of the toilets is worse than in Greece! Shower was decent but again, grubby and bits flaking off the shower tray making the environment really unpleasant. I think most rooms have shared bathrooms and this often involve going down the stairs to a different floor. The room was stifling hot in October, they did supply a fan though. The whole hotel smells faintly of smoke which is really concerning. And as others have said, there's bags of dirty laundry and Hoovers everywhere, not just a trip hazard but just really ugly! But no cleaners in sight?! Overall really shabby and soulless and didn't sleep well (the single bed is absolutely tiny). Location is however great - near Russell Square, Bloomsbury, Tottenham Court road etc.

The worst place ever. The place is a shambles. The customer service is a disgrace. Keys were given to a room undergoing maintenance- buckets on the floor and the beds ON THEIR SIDES. I have been trying to sort this and ignored repeatedly by a disgrace of customer service. "No one works here on Sunday" I have been ignored, stonewalled and hung up on - that's just the customer service The hotel is disgustingly badly run. Its a slum not a hotel. A disgrace all round.

It's impressive that a place like this still has patrons. It is a slum in a great neighborhood. My husband and I have stayed at The Arran House in the passed with our family for extended periods. At times we haven't been able to get a room because they stopped taking reservations directly and switched to Bookings. We understand it is now owned by new proprietors who have no respect for English Tradition. They literally cut out the English breakfast. What? We aren't staying in an Ibis. We're in London. They used to use the front parlor as a sweet evening place to put up your feet, have a nibble and a sherry and meet other guests - gratis. Now it is an empty room with a vending machine to buy cracker. Insulting. My pictures are of torn curtains, pillows with the stuffing coming out, rusty pipes, filthy, disgustingly dirty bathrooms and bedroom - where you sleep. I wish I could get my money back. But, guess what? If you pay with PayPal you CANNOT get your money back. Only a credit card would reimburse you. FYI, this is now a part of a chain called Crown Hotels. They own 5 others on this street. BEWARE.
