Property Description
REST UP hostel in London has been established within Driscoll House, a unique pre-WWI baroque style listed building, unlike any other in the surrounding suburb of Elephant & Castle. We have a century old history of being a hostel, a claim that we are very proud of, originally just for women and children however now open to all. With an original exterior, the interior has been brought up to date with modern common areas perfect for relaxing and zoning out of reality and into the cyber world with our FREE WIFI.
Our TV room and terrace are both great places to enjoy some snacks and laze around in the brightly coloured chairs/ bean bags and soak up the sunlight (on the rare occasions when London’s weather decides to shine).

I have to admit, the lobby really surprised me—it’s stylish and has a nice vibe, which gave me a good first impression. The staff I met were pretty nice and polite throughout my stay, which I appreciated. The location is super convenient, and for the price I paid, it felt like a good deal at first. The bathroom was a bit cramped, but at least there was hot water, which was a relief.
But honestly, the negatives outweighed the positives for me
When I finally got to my room, I was shocked to see that the “mattress” was actually just a blue gymnastics mat—definitely not what I expected. Even though the sheets were clean, it was uncomfortable and I barely slept well the whole time.
It was summer during my stay and the room was absolutely boiling—over 30°C in the daytime. There was no air conditioning, not even a fan, and I felt like I was melting every night. Honestly, I dreaded going to bed. The soundproofing was terrible too; I could hear people shouting at night, which made it even harder to get any rest.
Another thing that annoyed me was that the website said there was a dryer available, but it was out of order—just like the elevator.
To be honest, the stylish lobby and friendly staff simply weren’t enough to make up for all these issues. I really wanted to like this place, but I left feeling tired and disappointed.

Considering the amount we paid, it was a good stay. It was easily accessible and the staff was also good.

A very basic hostel, but in a convenient location, and a building with a fascinating history. Plus, they do the basics well. Room and sheets were clean and the shower was warm. For its price, nothing to complain about.

The washroom is bad, with a malfunctioning flush button. No towel provided, unless you buy from them for 5 pounds. Staff is nice and the location is fine. But there are definately better choices for this price point.

Worse than a prison. No air conditioning, no fan, the window can neither be opened nor closed, there is only one ventilation slit. Dirty.
I don't know who would support the existence of such a hostel. Because it is much worse than a youth hostel.
According to inquiries, this building was originally a temporary residence for illegal refugees, and was later bought by the current owner to do business. Except for the front desk area, it is basically undecorated and original. In other words, you have to pay to live in a place where refugees are unwilling to live for free.
The boss is very bad. He logged out of the private bathroom room type on the platform, but there was no toilet in the bathroom, and the toilet had to go out to use the public one. After being deceived, I asked for a refund but was rejected. So I can only take a photo and comment. I didn't stay there either, and changed to another hotel.
Just consider the money as a donation.

Did the job for one night stay with friends, one issue was that in the communal bathrooms the signage wasn’t clearly in show meaning that men were going into the women’s bathroom and shower and women were going into the men’s,made me feel a little unsafe and uncomfortable but other than that the staff were amazing and it did the job for what we needed it for. :))

Couldn’t stay the night
When arriving at this hostel with my daughter we felt very unsafe in the lobby and community area. Our room was several floors up - there were people loitering in corridors and security patrolling.
Our room felt like a prison cell - very small, it smelt and contained a rickety bunk bed that had a very thin mattress that would have offered no comfort.
We decided to leave and found another place to stay. When we checked out we were offered another room but we felt too unsafe to stay. The hostel would not refund our money.
