Consistently praised for friendly, helpful staff; convenient location near transport and amenities; comfortable beds and rooms in a fantastic pub setting. Great views of the area.

Wish I'd read the other reviews before booking. My bad. Found the rooms small and tatty. Shower was a nightmare. Either freeze or get 3rd degree burns. Unhelpful staff member said "you can get heat or pressure, but not both". I always try and book rooms in a pub rather than a bland hotel and the bar downstairs is traditional and quirky with 1960's music playing. But if you value a modern room with a working shower then the Premier down at Belsize Park is a far better option.

Great for an absolute last minute booking. I got stuck trying to leave London during the snow last night, and Hampstead's hills proved too much for my car after nearly crashing. Managed to skid to a stop and book a room at 10.45pm. The only place near enough to walk to. I called straight away (quite upset by many near misses in the car) to check the booking had gone through, and the lady on the phone was so kind. I got the the pub within 10 mins and was immediately given a mulled wine which was the best remedy for that snow. Waited a couple mins and the same lady came and showed me to my room and was so kind asking if I was ok. Lots of tea and coffee amenities which was perfect. Didn't sleep very well because a new place and the drive just unsettled me, but check out at 11am was great. Nice little place, nothing special but had everything I needed for the situation, warm, clean and dry. Thank you!

I normally don't pay much attention to one-star reviews, if there aren't too many of them--everyone has a bad day once in a while--but I'm really regretting it now. I'd booked a place in Hampstead so that I could get up early the next morning to go for a dawn walk and swim. But it turned out that my room was directly over a live amplified band that evening. The hotel staff told me they couldn't move me to a room toward the rear of the building, which might not have been so loud, and that the band would be performing until 11. Since it looked like I wouldn't get to sleep early enough to enjoy an early morning walk the next day, I left--so I wasted £130 plus the time that evening that I could have done something else. Very disappointing, but lesson learned I guess.

It’s a great Inn! The pub is lovely and location ideal. Set just outside central London but 2 minutes walk to the Tube. It’s not a boutique hotel, you wouldn’t want to stay here a week as room/bathroom is quite small but for a weekend break it’s great. The decor is ‘shabby chic’ (more shabby than chic to be honest) and it’s an old building with everything that comes with that. We didn’t find it noisy but I can see it could be if you go to bed earlier. Great value for money for London!!

Agree with similar recent reviews - for the right person this is a great place. We were quite happy here, and if it wasn't for the issues with the water (well documented in other reviews) I would have given it a 5. As such I am in the 3.5 - 4 range. Still pretty happy with our choice. Why you stay here: Prime location in upscale Hampstead, just a few yards walk from the underground (northern line). Great pub atmosphere down below. "shabby chic" (as previously described) rooms. Actually a fair amount of space. Good interactions with staff. Look out after yourself for the most part. Price, comparatively speaking, is competitive with budget conscious properties in Earls Court, Bloomsbury - Kings X, etc. Not for: Anyone who is looking for a refined "boutique" hotel experience. These rooms are not like the bistros on Hampstead's high street. These are pub rooms above a fun traditional bar - an inn. Music playing possibly till 11, and you will hear it. Our room (Adelaide), was charming - but yes there are dings in the trim, chips cracks, wallpaper needs some updating etc. It's an old building. The big caveat and know before you go is the plumbing is real tricky. Sometimes when you turn on the hot water no water comes out of the spigot at all - you have to wait 15 minutes before the water gets primed or whatever - but the end of our 3 night stay we had figured out some tricks to get it to respond. Also the tank for the toilet takes forever to fill up - it won't flush a second time for 10 - 15 minutes. I get it old building and all - but there are lots of old buildings that have functional plumbing. There is an extra toilet right outside the room in the corridor which we used a couple times. But you don't pay for ensuite to leave your room to go to the bathroom. Anyway - if you are wiling to fuss with the water issues, then this place is in the right place at the right price point with a great vibe. Give it a try eyes open. I would stay again if in hampstead, but we are cool with this style of accommodation.
