Recently returned from our stay at the The Hightae Inn, wow what a super stay. We arrived on a sunny afternoon and were greeted by the lovely Morag who immediately made us feel very welcome. We were soon enjoying a nice cold beer and a glass of wine in the sunny courtyard before an amazing dinner. Morag is an excellent cook and our meal for was superb. Our room was homely, very clean and with a comfortable bed, we had a great nights sleep. Hightae is a pretty, quiet village surrounded by countryside, its close to the main routes north and south, so worth taking a short detour to find. All in all, a trip to The Hightae Inn is like visiting a friends home and being very well looked after while there, can highly recommend and will definitely return.

Checked out this morning after a great one night stay. Guests are actively encouraged to enjoy the various seating areas both inside and out. On arrival, we were invited to have a pot of tea in the sunny courtyard. Later we had a thoughtfully prepared evening meal in the lovely dining area. We booked this a week earlier after Morag had emailed to ask our preferences. Breakfast was of equal quality as well being generous. I loved the table settings the art work and the home made bread! The room had good quality bed linen, towels, body wash and coffee tray. Very quiet for sleeping and in a well kept, friendly village. ❤️

What a hidden gem! This charming, small-scale inn is tucked away in an incredibly peaceful location and oozes atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Everything is meticulously cared for and spotlessly clean. My room was compact but cozy, with a comfortable bed and a surprisingly spacious bathroom. The hospitality deserves special mention: the hostess is warm, attentive, and makes you feel at home instantly. There’s no menu to choose from, but trust me—the dinner she prepares herself is absolutely fantastic. Breakfast is just as perfect: fresh, tasty, and a great way to start the day. An ideal spot for anyone wanting to escape the hustle and simply enjoy peace and quality. I’ll definitely be back!

If you want a small hotel in a quiet village location, convenient for the main road to (or from) the North; with a very warm welcome; which is clean; has a comfortable bed; good food; an amazing selection of whiskies; friendly fellow guests and locals - then I recommend the Hightae Inn. Morag and Mark are excellent hosts: chatty, interested, informative and helpful. My room looked out across a garden (the next door neighbour could tidy this up!) to a field of cows and the sheep in the distance on the rolling hills. The Hightae Inn is a former pub with rooms and it suited me perfectly as an overnight stay on my journey to Glasgow. It's easy to find; (it isn't in Lockerbie, take the Lockerbie junction off the motorway, drive on the A709 into Lochmaben, round Castle Loch and you'll find Hightae. They warned me about Sat Navs and mine wanted to lead me a merry dance.) Negatives: None really except that I was too long for the bath! I had the upstairs room near the grumbling boiler and that wasn't a problem (and they are going to fix it). I slept like a log. This is a part of Scotland that most people drive straight through and I think it would be good to come back here next time and spend a bit longer to explore the area. I am sure of a warm welcome and that whatever whisky I want, they'll probably have it.

Very comfortable, clean, and welcoming inn! Ideally positioned a little trip away from the motorway, perfect to break up a trip to the highlands! Breakfast was wonderful (they also offer a dinner, whilst we didn't get the opportunity to try, sure it would be great also!). Excellent little BnB!

Morag is a wonderful hostess and an excellent cook. It was nice to be able to have a pre dinner drink as the Inn is licensed. We really enjoyed our stay at the Hightae and will definitely visit again on our way up north. The Inn is in a very quiet village so a good nights sleep is assured!

Tucked away in the village of Hightae, near Lockerbie, this bed and breakfast is second to none. From the moment of arrival, with tea and biscuits, Morag makes you most welcome. Hightae Inn is a converted pub with a maze of rooms and intriguing decor. We had an evening meal and to was totally scrumptious. The room we stayed in was quiet, well equipped and such a comfortable bed. Breakfast was equally gorgeous. We would certainly stay again. Thanks Morag

We booked this lovely place as a stop-over to break up our return journey from the Highlands. Everything about our stay was utterly perfect and nothing was too ,much trouble for Morag....even catering for my fussy vegan husband! She had gone to the trouble of ensuring she had vegan milk alternatives for drinks and cooked us a beautiful meal for the evening. And my goodness; can Morag cook! From the evening meal to the breakfast, everything was stunningly presented and tasty. The bed was comfortable and the whole hotel was tastefully decorated. Morag has a real gift with people and seems to know intuitively exactly what you wanted or needed. A really special place.
