Kirconnel Hall can trace some its history back to the 15th century. The current Hall is an 18th century country house, modernised into a comfortable hotel, full of character and history. It is now family owned and John and Marjorie offer a warm welcome. We stayed only one night, in a double room with en suite and a modern shower, and a very comfortable bed. There is a small gym which we didn’t use. We were forewarned that an evening meal was not available, but I don’t know if that is normal. Breakfast was a cold buffet, well stocked with John supplying fresh toast to order. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and will certainly return

From the outside the hotel looks closed, not one bit appealing. Went in the side door and it was full of bags of stuff, quite smelly. The room was just ok, wet stains on the ceiling and light shade. Damp stains on the bathroom walls. The bed was clean. From our window we overlooked a fireplace graveyard. Didn’t stay for breakfast.

To say it was a waste of money is an understatement, the room was freezing with no control over the heat, if someone else turned a tap on it sounded like something out of a horror film. To say quiet, they must be deaf the 3am frieght train says differntly. As for the breakfast, toast was great, that's it, the rest was abysmal. Not sure where the room is on the pictures because ours didn't look like that. When turning the TV on I was shocked to see it was in colour, it looked that old. Simple miss advertisement, over priced, lovely building has been overshadowed by owners greedy pockets. In simple save yourself the misery and book a travellodge.

When you first arrive it's a bit thought provoking to say the least, but go with the flow. The building from the outside was obviously a grand house in it's day but as with all these huge properties they take a lot of looking after. Once inside the owners were really nice and welcoming. The hotel was querky but in a good way and the rooms were clean, large and had a bath with real running hot/ not like warm hot water. Considering it's actually wedged between a motorway and a main line rail service we had a really good night's sleep. Breakfast was a continental style which is perfect for us as there are only so many fried plates you can eat. My only negative was the wifi was not powerful enough to provide service to the room, so it was realitivly peaceful from the endless YouTube rubbish we now seem to watch as UK TV is well pants to be frank. Definitely give this place a try

We decided last minute to do a quick trip to Scotland this weekend to pick up supplies of Scottish bread, steak pies, lourne sausage and a few other bits and found this place on the web whilst driving up. What a find, a beautiful old building, beautiful and well kept, an amazing welcome from the couple that run the place and a great night’s sleep followed be a great breakfast. This place is a perfect location just off the motorway. Highly recommended if you are visiting the area!!!

The Kirkconnel is very easily found from the A74(M), as being brown signed from the roundabout. The aesthetics were good on arrival as love old buildings. The entrance was eclectic. Despite having a a confirmation webpage, an email confirmation, reference number and a second email with check in details, there was no rooms available at all. So just double, triple your booking before travelling, especially if travelling a long distance because there was nothing else local

I found this place by accident. The hotel I had booked accidently gave me a single, and there were no other rooms left, so they recommended the Kirkconnel. And I'm so glad they did. Met a lovely couple with a cute dog called dilly. They were so welcoming. The place gave me old, warm and cosy vibes. The room was clean, the pillows were fluffy, the temp was nice. I couldn't fault this place at all. I'd love to come back here and stay again.

What a wonderful resting spot after a day of travel from the States. A cool and clammy day outside was relieved by a warm fire in the fireplace and great conversations around the crackling hearth with fellow travelers from Germany and Scotland. The local brews and ciders were an added touch and the rooms were modern, clean and spacious. Check out the extensive antiques collection just off the exquisite dining room where we had a tasty breakfast before heading further north.
