We actually went in late 2022 but the calendar wouldn’t allow me to go back that far Absolutely filthy hotel. Probably the worst we have ever had the misfortune of staying in Filthy black mold around both windows Filthy black mold on the curtains Filthy carpet Filthy towels with dirty handprints still on them Filthy pillows Filthy cushions No lock on the room door! Absolute health hazard ! Great views Ridiculous prices for the room they expect you to stay in Staff didnt appear to give a damn about any of our concerns

This is our second visit to the Crinan hotel for my husband to go deer stalking. On arrival we were very warmly greeted by a delightful guy called Eiden (unsure of correct spelling) who actually remembered our visit two years ago. We had an excellent, very large room overlooking the sea with a super-kingsize bed and beautiful bed linen. The room was extremely warm; which was a great plus due to the cold weather we experienced. Dinner in the seafood restaurant is outstanding and offers an excellent menu of many choices. Breakfast served in the dining room was also excellent and plentiful. We had the great pleasure of meeting Mrs Ryan, the owner of the hotel, who was equally welcoming and friendly and who is a very talented artist with many of her paintings shown around the hotel. The coffee shop is also a ‘must’ to visit, offering home made cakes etc. We’re so looking forward to returning to the Crinan Hotel next year and there is only one word to describe The Crinan as “Faultless “.

This place is a rare gem. If you want marble and shiny chrome, it is not the place for you. It is a charming, family run hotel, with staff who really look after you. It is quirky and homely, stylishly decorated by Frances Macdonald, the owner, with many of her paintings on the walls. The food is wonderful - freshly landed seafood. The best oysters my husband has ever tasted. All this plus stunning views. We stay there whenever we go to Scotland.

The hotel is owned by Frances MacDonald the artist, who engages delightfully with the guests, and makes it feel as though you are staying with ‘the family’. All the rooms are individually furnished including her works of art; the food is wonderful, featuring much of the local seafood. The view over the sound is beautiful, and the proximity of the hotel to Crinan basin and sea lock means there is plenty activity to watch. A very interesting and relaxing place to spend a few days.

A wonderful couple of days in this hotel beside the the Crinan Canal near Lochgilphead in Argyll. The views out over the isles are spectacular... an all round quality experience. The restaurant serves up some great fare...I had the chicken in mushroom sauce and it didn't disappoint. As for the breakfasts...one of the finest I've had in many a year..sets you up perfectly for a day exploring the many attractions in a part of the world that gave birth to Scotland as we know it. Friendly staff, great value and fascinating and interesting decor with lots of eye catching artworks on display. Wholeheartedly recommended!!

Great location and views. Friendly and efficient staff. Wonderful food. Sorry to have to say that the balcony room we had was comfortable but showing it’s age and did not merit such a high tariff. Vastly overpriced!

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in what was described as a superior room. The cost for 2 nights was £620 on a B&B basis. The public rooms, reception, lounge and dining room were all clean and well decorated. However, once we got to the bedroom everything went downhill. The wallpaper in the bedroom and bathroom was damaged and peeling off. The carpet in the bedroom was dirty and stained. There was plenty of hot water in the bathroom and the pressure was very good. There was a stain in the bath where the cold tap had been dripping for months if not years as the washer needed replacing. The grout in-between the tiles was black with mould and one of the curtains was stained where it had regularly got wet because it was too near to the shower. The view out of the bedroom window would have been better if you could see it - the windows had obviously not been cleaned for many months if not years. We were provided with 1 small pot of shampoo and 1 of shower gel which was not replenished - I could get more from reception but I don't expect to have to ask for these basics in a 4 star hotel. Many people have rated this hotel as 5 stars on Tripadvisor commenting on the location, views and surrounding countryside. This would be the same if you were staying in a tent but I am reviewing the hotel. Unfortunately they have a captive market as there are no other hotels for miles around and seem to be able to get away with charging prices that are not warranted based upon the standard of accommodation.
