We stayed at the New Alex Hotel for two nights (30th & 31st May) and sadly, it was the most disappointing hotel experience we've had. On Saturday morning, we discovered our shower was completely broken. There was no manager or senior staff available—just a young team member who informed us that an electrician would look into it that afternoon and that we could use the shower in Room 20 as a temporary solution. This was far from ideal, but we accepted it in good faith, trusting the issue would be resolved by the time we returned. It wasn’t. We came back late Saturday night, around 11pm, to find the shower still broken. No one was around to speak to, and we had to check out Sunday morning without ever having access to a proper shower in our own room. On top of that, our room was never cleaned or restocked with basic amenities like toilet paper—we had to buy our own. I emailed the hotel to request a refund due to the poor service. What followed was a deeply disappointing email exchange with the manager, Sam. Instead of acknowledging the issue, he essentially accused us of being dishonest, claimed we had refused a room change (we were never offered one), and said that since we stayed both nights, we shouldn’t expect a refund. His response was dismissive and defensive—stating that we should’ve asked for a refund on Saturday, even though we had believed the issue would be resolved. At no point were we given a clear, viable alternative, nor was there any communication once we left the premises on Saturday. I've attached the conversation screenshots for context. I'd recommend filtering and reading all the bad reviews before you decide to stay here. No doubt I'll receive a passive aggressive response to this review which I didn't really want to have to write in the first place.
