Incredibly slow lunch service when the restaurant only had a table of 4 dining, our party of 6 and two tables of 2 and 6 having afternoon tea. The drinks order was placed and had to be chased after a 45 minute wait and one drink was wrong. Starters took 1 hour and 15 minutes to arrive after ordering. No apology or explanation for the wait. The staff need training in how to engage with customers, take an order properly and be more attentive. With such a small number of diners not sure why we had to share menus. Have dined here previously for family celebrations in the private room upstairs, service and food always excellent. Today the starters were disappointing and bland, the main meals and desserts were satisfactory. No checking by the staff if we required more drinks or if everything was okay with our meal. We did notify reception of the slow service when paying. A lovely setting but the service needs to be greatly improved, maybe the dining room is not a priority when there is a wedding on. Sadly we will not be back.

Staying for a wedding, Fabulous setting, steeped in history. Everything went like clockwork. Mostly cheerie staff, there were some that could have at least smiled whilst serving both food and drinks. Our room was clean and fresh, comfortable bed, pillows could do with replacing (quite flat). Food was lovely, breakfast was very nice, coffee was excellent. My only grievance was, three times during the day/ night my drink was removed by staff, it was always with my husbands and two friend's drinks, so wasn't a stand alone glass. I had to complain three times. But overall we've had a lovely stay.

Booked the private dining room for a 21st birthday meal. Wow! From the moment we arrived everything was fabulous. The guy who looked after us was brilliant. So friendly, funny & professional. He made sure our glasses were never empty & the entire experience was seamless. The food was exquisite & plentiful (especially the desserts) & the birthday boy received a dessert plate & complementary drink :) Thanks so much for making our night extra special. Highly recommend

Not a great experience with afternoon tea. I'm going to stick to the facts of my experience here. 1. Pre-booked afternoon tea for 4 ✅️ 2. Wedding on at the same time ✅️ 3. 45 mins to be served ❌️ 4. Hard bread on the sandwiches ❌️ 5. The beer had to be replaced because something wasnt right with it ❌️ 6. The chocolate cake wasn't right, the taste was simply unpleasant ❌️ 7. Scone was small ❌️ 8. Scone was nice ✅️ 9. Mushroom and leek pastry ✅️ 10. Sausage and apricot roll ✅️ 11. Portion sizes small ❌️ 12. Child's meal came 10 minutes after the adults ❌️ 13. I was still hungry afterwards ❌️ 14. No tea/coffee offered ❌️ 15. Cost £160 Whilst the staff were clearly busy with the wedding, I'm unsure as to why other bookings would be taken at the same time if the staff/kitchen cannot cope.

A fantastic hotel in a stunning location, staffed by dedicated and polite professionals aiming to make your stay as peaceful and smooth as possible. The hotel's exterior is stunning, and its interior features log fires and comfortable seating, evoking a sense of nostalgia. We stayed in the luxurious Mitton Suite, which features a spacious ensuite bathroom with a large bathtub for two and a walk-in shower. The bed mattress was exceptionally comfortable, and the pillows were of the highest quality we have experienced in any hotel over the years. The dining room maintained a nostalgic atmosphere. The menu included local produce for both breakfast and evening meals, prepared to a high standard. Notable items on the evening meal menu were mushroom soup, fish and chips, and ale pie with mash. There were a couple of minor issues, but these were sorted out quickly and professionally by the staff. Overall, an excellent stay, which was mainly down to the staff.

Just returned from another wonderful stay at Mitton Hall. The accommodation and staff are all superb especially Victoria on reception who goes out of her way to make sure your stay is just right. The roaring fires in both the main area and the bar are so gorgeous and creat the perfect ambience. Food was beautiful as usual.

We stayed there on one of those winter break deals. We were very happy with the room, and the meals were excellent. Very attentive staff, and good service. Highly recommended. We'll be back, as Arnie might say! And now I have to fill this review with rubbish, because TripAdvisor demands a minimum of 200 characters!!!

We went for afternoon tea, the sandwiches were stale we were told by the waiter it’s because they were made this morning! It was now 5 o clock. We asked if they could make us some more sandwiches but were told they had no bread left! Their solution we’ll just knock something off the bill! We asked another member of staff told again no bread left. Apparently it wasn’t the truth they had bread just wouldn’t make more sandwiches. We left, such a shame it’s a lovely venue.
