The hotel is not very big, but the rooms are adequate. The rooms are decorated in an old style, which can have a sense of nostalgia due to the building style of the hotel. It has a small restaurant which seems suitable considering the small number of rooms. Breakfasts are repetitive and lack variety every day. Unfortunately, the elevator rooms and especially the mirrors inside the elevators were not clean, and the cleaning of the elevators was not paid attention to. Of course, in addition to these weaknesses, the hotel staff are very pleasant, fluent in English, and always warmly responsive and helpful.

We were pleasantly surprised to see our suite came with a flight of steps leading down to the bed. Spacious room with a huge sofa. It would be better if the TV had a bracket that would allow it to be tilted towards the bed area. No doors for shower area and the tub was not so convenient for showering. A little difficult to shower we feel. Location was not near the eateries. Have to walk quite a bit downhill and uphill. However the staff were all super friendly and we were happy with our stay in general :) thanks a lot Hotel Da Estrela!

A little old for a 4-star hotel but a very good bed and spacious rooms.

Even though I couldn't speak Portuguese or English, I was able to translate the procedure for extending my stay, etc., and responded politely. The bathroom and toilet smelled a little like sewage, but other than that, there was no problem.

This is a unique hotel with character. We had a huge room with a bright green bed and two green settees. The bathroom was large and modern with a large separate shower area, a bath and a separate toilet. The room has ample plug sockets, a fridge with mini bar, a safe, lots of hanging space and a coffee machine. The breakfast is fine with some fruit (pineapple slices, grapes and melon slices). There is a good selection of pastries which vary each day as well as lovely bread rolls and a selection of 3 cheeses. The orange juice and coffee are both very good. I didn’t try the eggs. Two of the receptionists are knowledgeable. The man in the evening helped us find a restaurant. The best is Solar des Duques - excellent food and very friendly. The garden area of the hotel is very pleasant. Tip: Get the bus back to the hotel and get off past the hotel at the Estrela park - a lovely park and it is easier to walk down to the hotel rather than up. At Rato you can take a number of buses or the metro. There is also the tram which we took from near the basilica.

Traveled recently with my family to Lisbon. I was excited to stay at this hotel based upon reviews, the concept, and the fact that it is affiliated with a hospitality school, but I was disappointed in our stay. I really liked the decor, design, and concept but sadly it hasn't been kept up very well - stained walls, stained carpets, dents and dings in the furniture and walls, paint peeling on the bedroom wall from moisture, chipped desks, unhooked curtains hanging from the rods, carpet runners in the hall that trip you up, and a really sketchy door lock (old key lock, no security lock). My room door did not seem secure and could easily be rattled when locked. I did not feel comfortable at night. There were two hair dryers in the room and both tripped the circuit in the bathroom. My wife had to dry her hair in the bedroom. When we first checked in, I brought my door lock concern to the front desk and I was assured that the neighborhood was very safe and that they would have someone look into it the next day. No one ever followed up but since we were there for only a few days, I did not feel it was worth pursuing any further. Positives were... the location, a great residential neighborhood with its own charm but close enough to sites and attractions. The breakfast was fine, and everyone we met on staff was genuinely friendly and welcoming. I would consider this hotel a budget option with not a lot of frills, which is appealing, but I feel you must maintain what you do provide. This hotel still has a lot of potential but really needs some attention and care.

Just back from a three night stay at this beautiful hotel. Check in was smooth, friendly and efficient. Rooms are large, modern, very clean and beautifully decorated. Large , well fitted bathroom. Breakfast was excellent and again staff were friendly and efficient. One of our group has mobility issues, and the staff could not have been more helpful. They directed us to areas of the city we wanted to see, got prices for us on particular tours and transport. Daniel, on front desk at night, was always friendly and helpful. The bar area could be described as not having much atmosphere, but it was exactly what we needed for a relaxed holiday.....Giving a "front room" feeling. Selling wine and bottled beers. Location is very good. 9km from airport. We used Ubers all the time which were super efficient and very cheap. About 10mins walk to very nice park, bus stops and trams. Check out Jamie Oliver's restaurant.... you'd need an Uber to get there. Also check out Pavilhao Chines cocktail bar. Also Procopio bar...an "old world" experience. All in all a wonderful stay. Would highly recommend this hotel, and hope to return some day. Gillian Wall
