Hotel has shut its doors and disgracefully not told any customers who have bookings or travel agents and are still taking direct bookings on their own website. I spent 2 hours trying to convince Expedia’s call centre this was the case after the hotel still attempted to take payment on my credit card. The hotel has been bought over by a new company and the old owners have run for the hills and aren’t answering phone calls, emails or social media messages about bookings, pocketing the cash. Trading Standards are investigating.

I was planning to stay at the Star& Garter in April 2023 on my way to the Falkirk Wheel. I submitted a reservation to the hotel and received a confirmation from them. Subsequently, I read online that they were closed. I sent three emails to them requesting confirmation of my reservation. No reply. I sent an email cancelling my reservation. No reply. I even went so far as to email the head of the local canal museum if he could walk past the hotel and check the status. He did that and told me it looked closed. So, no visit to this hotel and everything else is a mystery.

Terrible! Having previously staying here and plenty of nights out I showed up with my case ready to stay here to find out the hotel was closed down! With no warning! Terrible! I understand things close but at least send an email or something, I had pre paid this stay and had no warning so was left to scramble to find a bed for the night which ended up being in Bo’ness!

By far the worst meal we have ever had. Popped in on a Saturday afternoon with friends, starters were horrendous, none of us finished our main and desserts were the worst of the lot. Under cooked, stale, peppercorn sauce was some sort of consistency with copious amounts of ground pepper added, frozen veg, frozen chips, no fresh veg, chicken as tough as boots can't be bothered to go on about the worst place to eat ever.

We've been in Stirlingshire on vacation now for three weeks and have made three trips to the Star and Garter for dinner. The food has been wonderful each time. Fish and chips were tasty, crunchy, and plentiful! The haggis bon-bons were some of the best tasting haggis we've had in Scotland. And the chili chicken pasta had a real kick to it. We also love their baked mushrooms in cream sauce. Just bring more bread to sop up that sauce! The staff is welcoming and goes out of their way to be helpful.

I stayed in their 'suite' which had a lovely jucuzzi bath, however I wasn't able to use it due to lack of hot water. My room didn't lock from the outside, so when I left the room I had to move all my things to my colleagues room for safety. Also TV did not work in either of our rooms. I called down and someone came up, couldn't fix it, and said they'd call back. They didn't. I sent a complaint email for a refund, as the experience was not worth £130 for one room. No reply from them, hence this review.

My brother and I stayed here last night while attending the killers gig at Falkirk stadium. The welcome was warm and checking in was quick and easy being shown to our room within minutes of arrival. The rookie was smart and clean with a modern feel to it and a large en suite that had plenty of towels and toiletries at hand. After the gig which ran late and a lot of walking was needed to get to a point where we could get a taxi back which led to us getting back to the hotel in the early hours of this morning, understandably the hotel was closed for the night but within minutes of calling to advise we were outside we were let in by the poor girl who must have been on duty that night without any complaint. Breakfast this morning was a well cooked full Scottish fry up with coffee refills and toast nothing to complain about there either. Overall a very enjoyable stay at a reasonable price the only small gripe being that our room was on the top floor with no elevator which was explained as being due to the building being listed which prevented this type of modernisation.

I stayed here with my daughter in room 2. The room was lovely with a boutique feel to it. Every little detail was thought of. The staff were lovely and accommodating. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

We booked for a lunch on Saturday and as it was a lovely warm day decided to sit outside. The waitress Stacey who we have met several times before was great and her usual helpful bubbly self. We ordered rose wine and it seemed like a long while on arriving. My friend who was visiting for the weekend joked that they probably had to go to Tesco for it. Eventually it arrive around 30 minutes after ordering it in a ice bucket. As we were ready for a cool drink, we poured it and took a sip. Unfortunately it was Luke warm which was a disappointment and also it was one of Tesco's finest. We mentioned it to Stacey who immediately took it away and put it in the freezer. She did apologise and said it was her who asked another member of the staff to go to Tesco as they did not have any of the wine that we requested. Any way wine forgotten we there then served with out meal. I ordered the small fish but it was massive. Unfortunately the batter was very soggy when I cut it and just barely cooked I didn't complain but just left half of it. My husbands steak pie was ok but was served with frozen cubes of carrots and peas. My friends macaroni was spot on. After we finished eating, we went into the bar for another drink while my friend was waiting on her train. We ordered cabernet sauvignon as at least it needed no chilling, but was presented with sauvignon blanc in an ice bucket. When we advised them that it was not what we ordered we were in formed that there was none of the one we had ordered. I then asked for shiraz which they also had none. We eventually settled for another wine which was in stock. All in all the experience was not up to standard we had expected and if it was not for Stacey who was a star the experience would have been a lot worse.
