What an amazing place!. The lodges are so lovely, the staff and guides could not be bettered. The activities offered are superb. We rafted in and rafted out and, honestly, I just want to go back!

Pacuare Lodge is nothing short of magical. My 8yr old, husband and I stayed for 5 nights and had a very hard time leaving. This is an elegant, sophisticated place to stay that lives its values. You can understand what Pura Vida means when you stay here. Our activity guides, in addition to being safe and knowledgeable, were incredibly kind and warm with my son. From letting him join them on their breaks, to asking him to name a new baby boa constrictor who was hanging around, they made us all feel like part of a very special community. The spa was off the charts. Kattia gave such an amazing massage I made my husband get one and I got two. I live in NYC and have access to wonderful spa services and Kattia was hands down the best massage I’ve ever had. The kitchen was completely flexible with us, preparing things our 8 yr old would enjoy and accommodating our travel schedule even when the kitchen was closed. I thought the Costa Rican dishes in particular were outstanding. I’ve already told my parents (who lived in Costa Rica for 6 years) to go, and I fully intend to return. Five stars - cheers to the first hotel that inspired me to write a review.

Everyone was so friendly and helpful and enthusiastic and knowledgeable. An amazing experience. Two rafting trips, canyoning, zip line canopy tours. Everything was included even the food which made it actually great value. All the staff were great but an especial shout out to Eric, Pino, Joshua and Susanna. Thank you everyone.

We spent 3 nights at Pacuare Lodge in March and had a fantastic time from start to finish. Pepe greeted us in San Jose and was our river guide for the trip to the lodge. He entertained us with stories along the way, and kept us all safe. It was our first time rafting and we loved it. We enjoyed his enthusiasm and humor. Our time at the lodge was magical. The food was amazing with incredible choices for each meal. We had a memorable hike to a Cabecar (indigenous) village with two wonderful guides. Dave had encyclopedic knowledge of birds, mammals, trees and plants, insects, history and more! Eric, an indigenous guide, taught us so much about his culture. Our other nature guides Eric, Luis, and Giovanni were excellent and showed us many incredibly beautiful birds, butterflies, and frogs. We stayed in a Garden Suite near the pool, and loved the outdoor shower and the experience of hearing the night sounds. Our rafting trip out was spectacular, with Ricardo and Rafael, who were both excellent river guides. Ricardo was extremely knowledgeable and experienced and kept us happy and safe the whole time.

Our family visited Pacuare Lodge for 2 nights for March break. We enjoyed our Linda Vista room on the river very much and nice for our boys (12&15) to be close to the pool as well although the villa had a plunge pool also. Ricardo was our amazing rafting guide coming in and leaving and he was fun and very knowledgeable about the river and the surroundings as well as helping to take great pics along the way. Food was amazing, staff knew all our names and my son’s food allergies which was amazing service. We celebrated our wedding anniversary during our stay and they had setup a private candlelight table by the river without us asking along with a special dessert. Very considerate. The pricing is certainly not for everyone but given the activities included ( we did zip lining, canyoning, night walk and birdwatching with guides there) the special experience created by the staff, food and location, we are glad we stayed here. The staff had also arranged a rental car for us to meet at the end of the rafting trip so we didn’t have to go back to San José and we continued on our tour of Costa Rica. Thank you for the memories!

I agree with other reviews . This place is at best a campsite. How can they charge five -start resort pricing for a campsite. The service is terrible. The food is mediocre. The rooms are dated. For some place that is hot and humid, there is no where to get cold water. Forget about getting coffee in the morning . The service is slow - you order your meals in advance and still have to wait over 90 minutes. And forget about if you distract them by asking for water or drink while they are preparing your meal. I will never recommend d this place. It’s a Holiday Inn experience at best.

I am a Costa Rica Travel Consultant, 12 years. I’ve traveled and stayed all over the country. I took a small group to Pacuare Lodge in October 2023 and our experience was incredible. The staff is beyond amazing. The food, superb. Only complaint was too much and we never seemed to get hungry before next, 4 course meal. Homemade ice creams, a lamb shank that was to this day, so memorable. All the fresh fish was so good. I would rate Pacuare Lodge, their staff, their food, some of the best I’ve had in the country. This is a unique experience that I highly recommend. I’ll be back, book my guests and proudly bring others. Highest regards and ratings for Boena.

We went as a family last week. It is a beautiful and unique setting and the rafting experience was very cool. Our Linda Vista suite was great right beside the river which made it very peaceful and it was a challenge to stay awake - wonderfully relaxing. My issue is just the price vs level of service and the food. First off, it is Four Seasons pricing with Super 8 service. I understand Tico time and all but the meals took forever to come at all of our meals eventhough we ordered in advance - it was so bad that I completely missed a dinner entree b/c I was just too frustrated to wait longer than 90min for it to come out. Finally, I got severe food poisoning at our dinner on our second night and missed an entire day of meals and adventures the next day. When we told the front desk they merely said no one else reported sickness and that was it - no compensation offered or anything. Once they get your money they don't care about you whatsoever. Needless to say we won't be back.

An incredible jungle experience in one of the most special hotels we’ve ever stayed in. Extremely remote, pretty much the only way to get there is by raft. Once there, the facilities are incredible for such a remote place. The food is as good as most fine dining restaurants in London, wonderful rooms and very knowledgeable and friendly staff. The activities range from canopy zip lining, canyoning, jungle walks and nighttime walks - there plenty to see. The highlight was the white water rafting trip out - with Riccardo and Alex, who were very professional and fun at the same time. Worth every penny.
