The house is beautiful, the food is excellent and the price is not expensive. But the service was terrible. I saw a girl with a child and they didn't help her with her luggage. I guess this is the UK today.

We had a lovely one night stay here in the superior cottage room with a terrace. It had a beautiful view of the hills with castle Bolton in the distance. Hope the new garden rooms being built in the field below aren’t going to spoil the ambience of this hotel with its superb position just above the falls. Just a few little details like knobs falling off the shower taps and no pictures on the walls could do with some thought and attention.

We were more than impressed with this lovely hotel. Apart from the fact that it is situated in such a beautiful part of Wensleydale with spectacular views from the bedroom, the service and accommodation were excellent. The decor is stylish and upmarket. We ate in the restaurant at night. It was popular for good reason. Tasty fresh produce served with care and attention. Breakfast was the same. Credit to the waiter who dashed around with such enthusiasm. We will definitely return. A lovely experience.

Fabulous as always, we've been coming here for years, and seen a lot of changes. Beautifully redecorated rooms. We'd booked a suite, however staff saw me struggling with the stairs and upgraded us to a ground floor with a view. Thank you so much for your care, excellent meals, and Fabulous staff

Stayed for 5 nights at this lovely country hotel, bed, breakfast and evening meal. The location was wonderful, however the road at the front of the hotel can be quite busy. We stayed in a pleasant room on the first floor. The bed was comfy, the pillows a little too soft, I almost disappeared into mine, a large bathroom with a strong shower and plenty of hot water. The storage was adequate, however, a chest of drawers would have made all the difference. There was a safe, fridge, ironing board and iron, hairdryer and a desk top fan. The fan was a life saver as the room was very hot and the sash windows didn't open properly. There was tea and coffee making facilities and the offer of a complimentary small bottle of fresh milk. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were attentive and friendly. However, they were short staffed and occasionally this showed with forgotten items at dinner, particularly. The bar menu food was of good quality and tasty, but there was a limited choice e.g. French onion soup all week. There was plenty of choice at breakfast, we didn't have to wait long for our pot of tea to be served and the cooked food arrived promptly. The cereal dispensers were tricky to operate and one morning I managed to dump a weeks supply of muesli into a bowl...hilarious. The hotel was ideal as a base to visit the area. Everything wasn't perfect, but the staff tried their best to plug any gaps in service. I would have no hesitation in going again

Stayed for a weekend that my daughter bought us as a Christmas present . Not a very good experience we were in the bar on Saturday evening and there was a power cut lasting around 2 hours . Following morning got up to have a shower but there was another power cut so couldn't have a hot wash before setting off home , the power came back on but still no hot water . Went for breakfast sat in the dining hall and the power webnt out for a third time , we settled our bill and checked out. Two months later I received a invoice saying that we had a bill for £48 that needed to be settled even though this had been paid prior to leaving the premises, I'm in possession of the receipt supplied by the hotel also a credit card statement confirming the payment. Don't think I'll be returning

We stayed in the Deluxe King (Richmond) room, which unfortunately was located directly above the kitchen. This meant constant cooking smells drifting into the room and the loud noise from the extraction fan running from 7:30am to 9pm daily, making it difficult to relax. The room itself was dark and poorly lit, lacking any sense of comfort or attention to detail—no complimentary bottle of water or any finishing touches you’d expect at this price point. The entire property, including the bar and restaurant, was plagued by flies, which made dining and relaxing unpleasant. There appeared to be no clear leadership; new staff seemed untrained, which reflected in the overall service. The experience was so poor that we decided to cut our stay short and left a day early. Regrettably, I would not recommend this property at all.

Booked this place for our 20th wedding anniversary and was left terribly disappointed. Having 3 children and with our anniversary being so close to Christmas, this was the very first time that we had ever celebrated it. I booked a bottle of champagne to be in the room on arrival, it wasn’t there. The staff did try to rectify this but as it was supposed to be a surprise for my husband I declined the offer. The money that I had paid in advance was then added as credit to our room. Fair enough, but what if I wasn’t intending to spend any more money there? We booked the suite which needs some updating. The ceiling had signs of damp and damage and the armchair was broken and wobbly. The wardrobe was tiny and had very few hangers. I booked the suite so that my husband could have a bath as he loves them. On the first night we couldn’t get the water to come hot so just put this down to it being late and the hot water being used up by other guests. We had showers and the water was also tepid to say the least. Nobody told us of any trouble with boilers at this point. In the morning we went down to breakfast in the hotel. They have the most ridiculously small juice glasses so I saw a couple of larger ones on an unused table and used these instead. As I have spinal issues and walk with a stick I thought this would prevent me having to go up and down the stairs numerous times to get more juice. The waiter in the restaurant had other ideas and told me it was forbidden to use the larger glasses and we had to use the small ones!! I told him that using larger glasses wasn’t the end of the world and to calm down as nobody had died!! The service after this was very frosty and both my husband and myself felt very uncomfortable in the restaurant. We went out for the day and after exploring the beautiful surroundings of the hotel came back. My husband wanted a bath to relax, again no hot water. He went down to reception to ask if there was a knack to getting water hot and the manager at this point told us there was a boiler issue but it should be sorted within the hour…. It wasn’t! I was already extremely disappointed with the establishment and wanted to leave in the morning. My husband convinced me to stay for the 2nd night, however if anybody had told us that there would be no hot water for our stay then we would have left that morning. By the time we were told about the issues, my husband had drank 3 pints and was over the limit to drive so we had to stay. The manager then refunded the money I had paid for the champagne back to my card and said the drinks and food would be taken care of. At this point though, I was so upset with our ruined anniversary that I couldn’t eat and only had 2 drinks. To be fair we were offered a room in the cottage to have a shower but as this is across the car park and I have mobility issues this was not an option for me. The manager also offered us a return visit which I declined as I have 3 children and live a 2

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel . The service was excellent , the staff were friendly and helpful . The gardens are large and a great place to sit and enjoy a drink or two . The Hotel is a good base for exploring the area . We will definitely be back, hopefully with the rest of the family next year .
