The location right on a canal is very good, breakfast is very good! Unfortunately, access to the rooms is a bit difficult, the elevator and luggage have to be dragged up the stairs to the 1st or 2nd floor. Otherwise everything was OK.

I was visiting a friend who lives across the canal so this hotel was ideal. Plus its situated at a lovely dividing point in the canals with restaurants nearby. Include breakfast in their comfortable dining area. The staff were very helpful since I was on the 3rd floor. My mistake asking for 2nd floor, forgetting the "ground floor" is our first floor in the U.S. The staff delivered my two pieces of luggage to my room upon arriving and I had them bring them down upon my check out. Important when you are old!

We stayed in this hotel for a week. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The breakfasts are very good with a large variety of choices. Our room looked out on the canal and we enjoyed watching the action on the water and the street. Very convenient location to explore the old part of Leiden. All within easy walking distance.

I’ll start with the positives the hotel wise excellently located, the beds were surprisingly comfy and the ground floor reception is nicely decorated. Unfortunately the negatives far outweigh the positive. We booked a luxury double room, on arrival we were given room 19. Essentially this is a forgotten attic room. The decor is dull dated & worn. Twin beds not even a headboard just two grotty scatter cushions. The bathroom sink was cracked and there was an over bath shower that was cramped and poor water pressure. After I complained they moved us to room 2 for the remainder of the stay. This is a first floor front room. This is the blue striped room from the photos it looked quirky, in reality it’s grotty, dated and poorly executed. Huge bed, big enough for 3 adults, with 2 pillows. No sound insulation between the room above when the guests in the room above moved the whole room shook. There are three large single glazed overlooking the canal unfortunately this meant we could hear noise from the street & bars etc. There is an over bath shower the fitting is broken so cannot be adjusted & the shower head kept falling down. The sink plug was blocked with dirt. We paid for the breakfast and regretted doing so- it’s basic & the fruit juice tasted watered down! We wish we’d gone out for it. The staff were surley. I had to arrange with the housekeeper to move rooms, it was too difficult for the receptionist. I appreciate this is a very old building but there was no excuse for the condition. I would recommend you stay elsewhere.

The hotel is beside one of the main canals & is just a short walk to the main area. The reception & bar area is lovely. We had a nice room at the front of the hotel, very spacious. The only let down was the breakfast & in particular the eggs, both the scrambled & boiled were near enough cold. The scrambled also was literally down to the scrapings & wasn't refilled. All in all though we had a great stay.

I wanted to make a reservation at this hotel, until... the reviews of the hotel turned out to be not good, but also the responses to those reviews were not as you would expect. No excuses, it's always up to the guest... but let them make sure everything is fine first. Rooms that smell like urine and holes in the bedding... even though the room that person asked for may not have been available, you can expect all rooms to be perfect... right?

Leiden is fun! Very nice, the location of the hotel too, but the rest is dramatically bad. Dirty, the small bathroom stinks of urine, the mattresses too. I had a jersey bottom sheet with holes and dirty yellow large stains under the mattress, which I immediately removed and gave to reception. The mattresses also smelled of old urine, the pillows were also heavily soiled, yellow with lumps of filling. Luckily I always bring my own pillow. Please check the beds if you still want to check in. We had classic room no 26, which is half the size of their brochure photo. Itchy all night, the fan was good and helped a bit. The shower only gave cold water and the breakfast was very simple in a very simple room. Location good, but hotel poor and not very helpful. The young girl behind the reception wanted to help, but the older lady really did not. I have many photos but I can't seem to post them here? Google also has my review, they are there.

For Madame's birthday we stayed one night in the luxury suite (there is only one) of the hotel. I had also ordered a bouquet which was waiting for us in the room. Difficult to describe this room other than that it includes a large four-poster bed with a starry ceiling, a bathtub on one side of the room (not in the middle but almost...) and very busy and very kitsch decor. The bouquet was sumptuous (Holland obliges). Covid obliges, there were few of us on Friday morning at breakfast in a typical Dutch dining room (at least that's how we imagine them). Very helpful staff speaking English. This hotel is located a reasonable distance from the station (walkable, even with a suitcase), and on the edge of a canal. I think we will remember this hotel and this room for a long time.

The hotel is very well located in the city center. But it can be difficult to access, especially on Sundays when several streets in Leiden are closed. We had a lot of trouble reaching it with our GPS. The solution of parking your car in a car park not too far from the hotel is interesting during your stay. We were very disappointed by our first night, in an old and dark room, on the third floor (no elevator) with a view of zinc roofs, noisy with the rain. Following our comments, the management offered us another, more elegant room with a view of the canal. Our second and third nights were therefore much more pleasant. Overall, it is an old hotel which deserves a facelift inside and thermal insulation efforts (the windows are not double-glazed and we are always a little cold). It has a certain charm and the staff is friendly.
