The Royal Heysham

We visited the Royal for a late lunch today, following a walk along the cliff tops in Heysham. The food, atmosphere and service were faultless and we would highly recommend this to anyone who fancies delicious, beautifully prepared food which is a cut above the average without being in any way pretentious. I had the best fish and chips ever ( equal to the Magpie in Whitby) and my partner had the steak and ale pie which was a proper home made, stand alone pie with a rich beery gravy and delicious carrots and crispy kale. We couldn’t bring ourselves to leave, so ordered Tiramisu and sticky toffee pudding with our coffees and they were equally wonderful. The chef really knows what they are doing and hasn’t been tempted to over complicate any of the dishes. The prices are not low, but are absolutely fair, given the quality of the ingredients and cooking. We will definitely be back and would love to spend the night next time. 10/10

On arrival we had a warm welcome & shown to our room. The room was modern & clean. The continental breakfast was a great touch & enough for us. The fridge filled with extra milk juice & yoghurts was a great addition. Great location for exploring Lancaster. The only reason for the 4 stars is that it’s a tad noisy as it’s on a main road. This can’t be helped & i appreciate that. We were given a sleep well pack which had an eye mask & ear plugs. This did help as i’m a light sleeper. Great value hotel & would recommend

Although there is no air conditioning, it is already a good hotel in the area. I don’t quite understand why they say that the moonlight is beautiful tonight is a subtle confession. Until I saw the golden scales rippling on the river water under the morning sun and the orange clouds unwilling to disperse in the dark night sky, I wanted to pass on what I think is beautiful to you.

Arrived here Friday 25th October. Lovely looking interior of Large Restaurant and bar. So we booked a table for 8pm. Lovely guy pointed us in the direction of our room and that’s where the luxury ended. A truly awful room which was dark and dowdy, with only a tiny window that was cracked, so we didn’t dare try and open it for air as we didn’t want to crack it further. Someone had been smoking in the room as a) there was a slight tobacco smell b) Filters were left on the Windowsill. There were no doors on the Wardrobe and it seemed that every surface was chipped and covered in splashes of paint! The small Bathroom was modern and clean but the shower cubicle itself was tiny. Flushing the toilet was a nightmare as the noise was horrific which we reported as soon as we went downstairs but nothing was done so we used the toilets in the bar area in the hope that we wouldn’t need to use during the night!! Unfortunately that didn’t work so think the toilet would have woken up the whole hotel. The Restaurant itself was lovely as was the food in fact it was excellent the whole experience was ruined by the state of this room and so on this ocassion we wouldn’t recommend to anyone. When we saw the cleaners in the morning we warned them about the soaking wet floor in the bathroom as the shower doors didn’t fit properly, they were very apologetic and lovely. I’m glad we were only booked in for the 1 night. It’s not worth the £81 (excluding breakfast) we could have stayed somewhere more light and airy for that and eaten out.

Love the hotel. Huge room size and bathroom, ample parking, good facilities - kettle, tea, coffee - close to city centre, hospital and halal food. It’s so good that we came back and stayed for another week! Definitely my go to hotel whenever Im in Lancaster.
