We upgraded to a superior room with a balcony, however it is one continuous balcony with no dividers other than planters containing low level dead plants, so there is no privacy when sitting out. The bathroom was badly laid out, on two levels, with a peculiar folding door around the toilet which creaked loudly when moved. The grouting in the shower was filthy and the soap tray was hanging off. There was no heated towel rail. For a four star hotel we would expect at the least to have bottled water in the fridge but there were no extra touches. We were looking for a nice hotel to break the journey from Scotland to the south of England and as it was around our wedding anniversary decided to treat ourselves. Had we seen the hotel from the promenade side before booking, we would certainly not have wanted to stay here. With banners advertising Food served daily the place looked more like a chain budget restaurant, and certainly not somewhere you would pay over £200 per night. First impressions on entering by the main door are not good either. The ‘automatic’ doors are operated by pressing a button, not ideal if you have luggage in both hands, and the reception desk is one end of a large busy bar. When we checked out we were presented with a bar/restaurant bill, although we hadn’t had any food or drink other than breakfast . As guests are given a card with their room number and also invited to download their details onto their digital wallets, there is no excuse for this to happen. The only thing in this hotels favour is its location, otherwise you would be better off in a Premier Inn.
