The Interlaken Inn

This review is about the restaurant only. We didn’t stay at the inn. I was planning our 10 year wedding anniversary. I was looking around and found this restaurant. I called and left a vmail. I received a return call to confirm, and had a conversation with the owner? I was very much looking forward to attend a special dinner with my wife. The decor looked phenomenal. The food has positive reviews. The owner had spoken to me about a cozy nook that is private and romantic. It sounded picturesque. The food was ok. The service from the front staff and our waitress was phenomenal. My disappointment comes from the atmosphere and ambience. We were stuffed into a front room that looked like a porch out of the 1970s with 2 other couples. The couples were lovely and celebrating their own celebrations. I’m disappointed I didn’t get the romantic vibe I was hoping for that the owner spoke of. I saw some fabulous tables in very romantic areas of the inn I would have loved to sit with my wife, like the fireplace. I felt shunned despite spending 200 plus. To each their own, but for coming out to lake placid once a year to celebrate my marriage, I don’t think I’ll be returning here. I feel slighted and it doesn’t feel good. I’m sure others have had better experiences. Lucky them. I could keep this private, but I think the restaurant should be aware they need to be cautious on how they communicate to their patrons and future diners. I’m sure the inn itself is cozy: it looks super cute and the house staff was extremely friendly. Mr owner, don’t promise super romantic and stuff patrons in a corner. The ambience, environment, and romantic vibe that was set as an expectation vs the actual is what did it in for me.

This family owned & run Inn is a hidden gem and worth the stay. Laura- Max- Heather- Regina are so welcoming and charming. We felt like Family. Justin the in house Chef- WOW- this man deserves a Michelin star rating ! Delicious food. we are definitely coming back.

The Inn and restaurant had very nice decor and ambiance. Our dining experience was not satisfactory. Several people in our party of 8 complained about the over-salted food. Several orders had to be sent back due to the over the top saltiness. The unsatisfactory feedback from the kitchen was.. "you should have special ordered". How about just easing up on the salt and we can add our own if needed?

On a recent visit to Lake Placid we had a very enjoyable and satisfying stay at the Mirror Lake Inn. The accommodations were excellent and so was the food. Unfortunately, our dining experience at the Interlaken Inn was abysmal. We had a reservation for dinner and we expected to be seated in the dining room. We were told the dining room was reserved for a private party and we were seated in the bar. Our experience with the dinner itself was equally unsatisfactory. The schnitzel was ill-prepared, the spaetzle was soggy, and the cabbage, which was the saving grace of the meal was scanty.

We had a reservation for dinner and were really looking forward to it. We drove over from Saranac Lake. My sister is in a wheelchair. Drove up to the in, steep set of stairs up to the restaurant. I ran in to ask about handicap entrance. I was told there was a rear entrance with fewer stairs but not wheelchair accessible. We were very disappointed and left.

We wanted to do something special for friends at their first visit to Lake Placid and The Interlaken Inn. They were arriving in July for a long weekend. I spoke to Casey and Justin who I found out later are the owners. They were very helpful and created this charcuterie board for their arrival. Our friends sent this pic and were so happy and pleased. Thank you Casey and Justin for helping us give a perfect gift to special friends.
