Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast

Wonderful stay, town is full of nice shops, good dining for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner in a,, price ranges. From train rides, to River walks, to nearby Mesa Verde we always were on the move. We stayed at the historic Strater Hotel and were not disappointed

This is the hubby's and my favorite getaway. It's the only place we'll stay in Durango. Gorgeous property. Charming house. Tons of bird activity and other wildlife. Big hot tub! Every room is special and cozy; all with their own bathroom. Well-tended house plants AND outside grounds. Delightful and friendly owners who, after 4 visits and one upcoming, I'm proud to call friends. The Aminas River runs behind the house and the sound of it is so peaceful. You can also hear the train horn a bit as it passes by each morning, (not too loud, but a pleasant, nostalgic sound.) It's close to Durango proper and Purgatory Ski Resort, without being so close that it's noisy. Lovely, light breakfast laid out every morning. Chocolate chip cookies available ALL DAY and they are fantastic! Need to know what to do around the area? Just ask Walter, a literal fount of knowledge and ideas. Want someone kind and sweet who will listen to your stories and stay engaged? That's Jodi. She's such a beautiful person, inside and out. We have visited every single season and it's gorgeous no matter the time of year. Do not pass up a stay here. You'll never know what you missed.

On a road trip, this place made a real change from motels. Walter and Jodi, the owners, bring an Austrian touch to the decor and furnishings, and make guests welcome. The large tables get everyone sitting together and talking to each other, which we really enjoyed. Continental breakfast was fine, and it was nice to have coffee / tea and home-made cookies on tap in the evenings! We only wish we'd had time to stay and watch the birds.

Having just returned from a vacation to Colorado, I decided to write some reviews of some of the best places we stayed. On top of the list is The Country Sunshine B and B. We stumbled upon this lovely place on trip advisor while looking for a place in the Durango area. We booked directly from this establishment and it surpassed our expectations. We were greeted when we arrived, and given a tour of the premises. Jodie and Walter treated us like family. Everything was pristine with attention to details. We had two rooms, each were unique and comfortable. We had a great shower with soft towels and nice linens on the bed. Breakfast was simple but delicious, with fresh baked goods, hard boiled eggs, fruit coffee and juice. It was nice having breakfast on the deck. It was like a bird sanctuary. If we return to this area we will definitely stay here again. I totally recommend staying at Country Sunshine B and B if in the area. If you do, Say hello to Sunny for us.

The Inn keepers are incredibly kind and thoughtful. Our flight was suppose land at 3:30 pm. We ended up arriving at 1:30 am in the following day. We texted Walter. He left a person note to welcome us and clear signs to help us to find our room easily and connect to WiFi. Our room was clean, cozy, and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. It included bagels, muffins, hard boiled, coffee, juice, eggs, pastries, fruit… there are big-comfortable dining tables inside and outside on the deck. The back deck has lovely mountain views. There are lots hummingbirds and deer to watch. The Inn is in a peaceful-quiet spot. You pull out of the short dirt road and go about 15 minutes straight down route 550 into downtown Durango for restaurants. The hot springs are about 8 minutes away. We sincerely appreciate the wonderful hospitality we experienced at this sweet inn.

Over many years, my husband and I have been treating ourseves by staying at the Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast in Durango, CO. The host and hostess, Walter and Jodie, are the finest and most cordial couple you will ever meet. The property is beautiful with an expansive view of the mountains and open landscape. Each room at the two story 'inn', (which I think of as a chalet), has it's own unique decor. There is even a baby grand piano in the 'meeting' room. Walter never disappoints with his culinary skills. Every morning is a surprise 'treat' including fresh fruit and homemade bakery goods. My husband and I enjoy our breakfast on the outdoor deck when the weather is promising. A hot tub is surrounded by a floral garden to enjoy; and there is plenty of parking on this very private property. You will not be disappointed by treating yourselves a stay at the Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast.
