Sands of la Jolla

This hotel is updated, has a pool, security, and is in a decent location. And most of the employees are extremely nice and helpful (shout out to Denise and the night lady attendant who did the 6 pm-2 am shift). On walking into our room we were greeted with a very musty odor. There began the problem. We were given some sort of machine to clear the air that never worked. Fortunately, my allergies and me survived the night. In the morning we returned the machine and the maintenance man said it was the wrong one. We also told them about the refrigerator that was oozing condensation and leaking water onto the floor, so we had to keep a towel there. The fridge was important because it housed my insulin. The same maintenance man told me it was doing that because we used the AC. Say what? And he asked how long we were staying. "Only two nights?" As if that meant the problems did not need to be rectified. The towels were like sandpaper and the pillows felt like a cloth case filled with tissues. After complaining, we only had one night left. So, we put up with the musty odor (because my allergies did not react) and the fridge (the insulin stayed cold) but we definitely did not like the responses to our problems. This hotel has so much potential. It needs to address its issues, beginning with that maintenance worker.

Great location. Nice clean updated rooms . Very convenient to beach . Let us early check in . Has parking and a nice pool . Manager was extremely nice . Everyone was friendly. Nice to have a balcony and watch all the traffic. Nice neighborhood.

We were a party of 32 people who booked this hotel to attend a wedding in San Diego, from UK and Canada for 1 week On day 1 of our holiday Upon arriving in our room, we all found that the shower water was only tepid, which was quite uncomfortable. I immediately contacted the front desk to report the issue and was informed that maintenance advised this could not be increased due to concerns about scalding However, 2 days later, the water temperature in the shower was noticeably warmer and reached a comfortable level. This suggests that the initial explanation provided by the maintenance staff was either incorrect or misleading. The inconsistent and lukewarm response to my complaint is unacceptable, especially when the issue could have been resolved promptly on the first day of my stay. The towels left bits of fluff on our skin and clothes after use, which was both uncomfortable and unhygienic and resulted in us purchasing a garment brush to clean our clothes. Such a condition is unacceptable. The rooms were oddly designed, the sink facilities were situated outside of the toilet and shower room, positioned within the actual bedroom area. This layout struck me as quite unusual and, frankly, unhygienic. It is standard practice and generally expected that after using the toilet, one should be able to wash their hands immediately within the same room. The current setup requires guests to exit the toilet room and walk through the bedroom to access the sink, which raises significant hygiene concerns. During our stay, my family and I spent a significant amount of time in the poolside area. We were surprised and quite inconvenienced to find that there were no restroom facilities available in this area. This lack of basic amenities was particularly challenging as we were traveling with young children who frequently needed to use the toilet. Having to return to our rooms or use the restroom in the reception area was not only inconvenient but also disrupted our leisure time. This situation caused unnecessary stress and discomfort, I believe that adding restrooms near the poolside area would greatly enhance the convenience and comfort for all guests, particularly those with young children. Such an improvement would undoubtedly be appreciated by many future visitors. Furthermore, upon check-out, I was shocked to find an additional charge on three payment cards for makeup marks left on towels. This charge is not only unreasonable but also discriminatory, as I discovered that other guests were not subjected to the same penalty for similar circumstances. I sent two messages on the hotel's online contact form to Jay the manager and received no response. Consequently, I contacted my credit card company to cancel the charge on my credit card due to the lack of response and the absence of any evidence of makeup marks on towels provided by the hotel. I am pleased to report that they agreed with my claim and refunded the charge. Unfortunately, the other two charge

A newly renovated motel with big airy and modern rooms. I just wish the rooms a bit more charm and were cleaner. But over all a pleasant experience with nice staff.

We visited during January and it was relatively quiet. rate was fair and room was excellent. free off street parking w security cameras. private balcony w 3rd floor views of the ocean. newly renovated w modern updates. short walk to world class beaches just down the road. the neighborhood is super cute, calm and California cool. black out shades worked great and room was quiet w good sound insulation from mellow street traffic. only con was I wish there was a tub but that seems to be the new normal these days so can't really knock em for that. Highly recommend and definitely will be a go to spot next visit to La Jolla.

Great location. Close to the beach and restaurants/bars. We booked the family room for three adults and we had our own beds. Clean and updated rooms. Will definitely book again in the future. Free coffee in the lobby.

Absolutely the worst customer service I've experienced at a hotel. The guy at the front desk was very rude. It really put a damper on our stay at this hotel. I don't understand why a hotel would hire such an unfriendly, rude person to check in their guests. The pillows at this hotel were disgusting. They were yellow and stained. I didn't notice how bad they were until we had spent a night there, ugh! I slept without a pillow the second night.

We are in La Jolla for just one night. I was hesitant to book here because of the rooms, but it’s been fine. While not upscale, it is clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. Stephanie at the front desk was more than friendly and helpful. And you can’t be the price, plus the free parking and WiFi.
