Our two-night stay at Ryokan Tori was the real highlight of our trip. It is located conveniently close to the Golden Temple and other historic sites. The area is pleasantly quiet, feels local, away from the crowds, and has great places to eat. The Ryokan is beautiful, lovingly furnished with antiques and with a beautiful courtyard with mossy stones, trees, and a fountain. At night we sat on our room’s covered balcony and just enjoyed the space — it was so peaceful. Most importantly, you won’t find any better hosts. Not only were we treated to a welcome tea and treat, a tea ceremony, and had daily baths prepared — we were also able to go to our hosts with any questions about the area, local restaurants, etc. They were always available and we were sad to leave so soon. We enjoyed the space, the excellent food (my ridiculous inability to eat fish was gracefully catered for), and the conversations with our hosts. We hope to return soon. If you are thinking of booking, you found a great place. 😌

My wife and I stayed one night here and were blown away by the kindness and friendliness of the staff.
The room was clean, and the mats we slept on were comfortable.
We are not tea drinkers, but the hostess was kind enough to perform the tea ceremony for us without having to drink any at the end. And after that our private hot bath was prepared for us, and made our skin feel so soft!
Wonderful experience, would highly recommend to anyone!

We couldn't have asked for a warmer and more hospitable place to stay that Ryokan Tori. The couple who run it are so kind and welcoming and will go the extra mile to make your trip memorable. The breakfast was delicious and varied every morning, the tea ceremony was elegant and fascinating and the rooms were comfortable. They provided great recommendations for the local area and helped to arrange our luggage forwarding which made the next stage of our trip a lot easier. This is a brilliant place and we would love to come back and stay again.

Traditional Ryokan experience in NW Kyoto. Owners can not do enough for you. Traditional bath, tea ceremony and Japanese breakfast. Myself and two adult sons shared a traditional room sleeping on Tatami mats but had a great nights sleep. Excellent recommendations for nearby restaurants and to visit geisha lane where we saw our first geishas is the trip.

I highly recommend this cost-effective ryokan!
The owners are friendly and you can even experience a tea ceremony while wearing a yukata! I really enjoyed it because it was a special experience. The private bath was also clean and had a good a**osphere. However, when using it late at night, there are quite a few users, so you can only enjoy it for about 30 minutes.
The breakfast was delicious, the room was clean, and most of all, the bedding was so soft and cozy! I recommend it~!!

This little ryokan is a true marvel. Its 4 rooms have incredible charm (tatamis and futons), the breakfasts are copious and served with a smile and above all the 2 owners go out of their way to make the stay with them a special moment (onsen on request, bicycle rental ...). In short, a magical place to explore Kyoto. Please note, remember to book in advance, given its low capacity.
