The boss is very nice, warm and thoughtful, and the whole room has Japanese characteristics. It mainly has a free hot spring, which is very comfortable. It was drizzling outside that night and the hot spring was gushing. The floor-to-ceiling windows looked out at the courtyard view, which was very nice! It's a pity that we stayed there for too little time

What a wonderful authentic ryokan experience only 8 minutes from Kyoto station! We slept on traditional Japanese futons (shikibutons) and savored soaking in the relaxing onsen while enjoying the view of the beautiful little garden. Yukata were provided each day to wear to the onsen or for lounging. The rooms were spacious and extremely clean. The heart-shaped windows in our room were picturesque indeed! Every day the staff surprised us with a new delicious Kyoto treat in our room, as well as having a variety of hot and cool teas available....my new favorite is barley tea (Mugicha). The staff were amazing and went out of their way to help us by recommending restaurants and other unique treat-shops that we never would have found on our own, and they were extremely helpful in giving us directions to the Gion Matsuri Festival and food stalls. Overall, my son agreed that the Yamadaya Ryokan exceeded our expectations, and he lives in Japan! I highly recommend this warm welcoming home away from home, where the staff are just incredible!

The experience was amazing. Our room was overlooking on the temple in front of the street and the view was great. You experience sleeping on the futon wearing a typical Japanese Pyjama. Also, the ryokan offers the possibility to have a private dinner with local products and a course menu with seasonal ingredients. We decided to enjoy dinner and it was really good! The ryokan also presents the typical Japanese baths, a must try. Our experience was really amazing. I would definitely recommend this place for everyone who is looking to experience an authentic Japanese stay.

Well-maintained structure, super clean and very characteristic. Super friendly and customer-focused staff. True Ryokan style rooms. Really well prepared dinner, typical and excellent cuisine. Quality foods. Top breakfast in true Japanese style! I recommend to everyone!!
