I think this is a hidden gem of a place to stay in Kyoto. Thanks to inbound tourists, hotels in Kyoto are very expensive these days, and in some places, they are full of foreigners. This hotel is located next to Nishi Honganji Temple, which is a very good location for sightseeing, but the accommodation is cheap and there are almost no foreign guests. The facilities are a little old, and you have to make your own futon, but the rooms are spacious and there is a large public bath. I thought it would be full of believers, but that was not the case. There is a morning service at Nishi Honganji Temple from 6:00, but you are not forced to participate. (I participated voluntarily to broaden my horizons). Dinner was okay. The breakfast buffet was quite filling. It seems that you can also stay overnight without meals.

I stayed here on a solo trip. It's a little far from Kyoto Station, but it's close to a bus stop so it's easy to get to all sorts of sightseeing spots. I think it's especially convenient for sightseeing in Nijo Castle and Mibu. Although it's accommodation at a temple, it's a comfortable place to stay for both sightseeing and business! There were many families with children there too, and the bright atmosphere was nice.
