This is one of the best stays I have ever had at a hotel that is meant to be budget. The staff is wonderful the amenities are nice and baths are grand. I can’t recommend this place enough. It is a bit of a walk from the trains but only when you are new to the area after that you quickly find it’s maybe a 7 min walk or less to the trains. I love this hotel and it’s staff I can’t say enough good about it honestly. The rooftop, the baths, the teas, the staff all are so great! Thankful to have experienced such a great stay.

Staff was super friendly, and gave us a free upgrade to a room with private toilet and bath! For price of the room, the amenities were great! The tatami floor was very homely. The location may not be near common tourist spots but it is quite central and easy to get around

Middle of thr town. Old type of Hotel. Toilet are outside in winter difficult to use. Bathroom also one issue. Foreigners may be try in summer. But staffs are very friendly

We wanted a traditional experience and that is exactly what we got! Walking distance to Kyoto Station made kt very convenient as well. Amazing service and value for money. My tweens also enjoyed. We had a private bathroom but she came with me to the public bath for the experience. Highly recommend!

It wasn’t a good location to take public transportation. Pretty old style Japanese room needs to be upgraded. We all woke up with sunshine every morning since those old curtains didn’t cover at all

We liked Azumaya so much that we extended our stay there. The bath facility is great. and over-all great service and good value for money.

I like traditional Japanese tatami rooms, but...
It's more uncomfortable than a bed.
The bathroom is so small that it is inconvenient to use it.
It's nice that there is a public bathhouse on the first floor.
It's about 10 minutes from Kyoto Station.

Japanese tatami room, large space, good location. You can see Kyoto Tower and Nishi Honganji Temple in the room. The hygiene is average. The cushions and mattresses have slight stains. We brought our own disposable sheets and quilt covers. Fortunately, the overall feeling is good.
