Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto

Arashiyama/Sagano/Takao
My wife’s birthday trip at the Suiran was a dream come true. With successive Covid cancellations, it took us four years of planning, but it was worth the wait. With their traditional Japanese structures and landscaping, the Suiran was our oasis of calm during Kyoto’s busiest season (cherry blossoms). We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and the best breakfasts of our lives in their dining room, and blissful riverside happy hours in their cafe. Our comfortable room had all the amenities, and a soothing minimalist aesthetic. The Suiran staff is spectacular: thoughtful, gracious, attentive. Through our years of planning and days of enjoyment, we were guided by Suiran’s chief concierge, Hiromi Maruyama. Her kindness, patience, and expertise added greatly to the success of our time in Kyoto. Her suggestions and insights, and good spirits were a beacon shining our way. We are indebted to her for her efforts on our behalf.

There was also a word of mouth of the person who stayed at the hotel, but this is really good and kind for everyone who the clerk says. In fact, before entering the ”Takao sightseeing hotel”, if you try to enter the shop where you feel like ”momiji 〇〇” in this area, you will enter the shop without a reservation, a person like Banto I saw me in the hiking style and said, ”I'm good, but I'm going to start 6000 yen even in lunch.” It was really good to stop. Thanks to you, I entered Takao sightseeing hotel and enjoyed the meal very well (laughs). This was a guest who stopped at the river floor without a reservation, like me, and responded comfortably. The people in this shop were trying to respond to the request of the customer. One example of this is that ... probably it was a customer who was cold on the river floor, and I was impressed by the appearance of setting up an empty table to keep the wind from the wind and sending warm air with a gas stove I did. Well, the main dish is about 3500 yen for hot tofu. It is not a luxury meal like Kyo Kaiseki, but it was suitable for my taste with a thin taste of Kyo style. Although the weather was good, the hot water tofu was delicious because the wind was cold. The cherry blossoms were soft and very gentle and elegant. It is a shop that I want to recommend to acquaintances. < Note > There is no hand washing on the river floor, so you will use the toilet in the hotel main building, but it was a very clean and easy to use toilet.

Kyoto Station and surrounding areas
Room was very clean and comfortable, though pillows were a bit flat. I liked that the bathroom had a separate standing shower area and bathtub, instead of being combined like many Japan hotels tend to offer. Could do with some hooks for hanging your clothes though. Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety, they even serve ice-cream. Overall, would highly recommend this hotel.

It's not worth the price, so don't choose this hotel. There is no doubt that all hotels in Japan are very hygienic. This hotel room is almost freezing in the winter, because Japan does not have floor heating, only air conditioning. The glass is single-layered, and the air conditioning stops running at some point, so we are all very cold. I called and got a small heater that was worth ten thousand a day. Breakfast is a continental dish that looks rich but has not adapted to Chinese people! My husband is a European and even he said that I could at least have a bowl of porridge while staying in a hotel in Tokyo for 3,000 days. And I am already very tolerant of things. If you don’t believe it, please go and see for yourself. There is ice cream, but not xiaolongbao, and no rice porridge. Porridge is only included in the set meal. I was stingy when I chose that set meal and didn't let you choose the buffet. I didn't eat much, but I thought the hotel layout was too low! And the set menu cannot be selected every day. All in all, I won't come back to this hotel again, it's so stupid.

Hotel location is decently accessible. Short bus or train ride to Kyoto station and easy to get to many attractions. Free breakfast included, but do get down early if there are many people staying there. Free drinks in the evening with a selection of liquors. Public bath was great, but time limited with both genders using one bath on alternate timings. Also abit on the smaller side. Ammenities was great and staff was friendly. Plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Overall a good place to stay.

Everything is good, the only thing I think could be better is about the check in and out time, it can only check in at 4pm and you have to check out at 10am, you don't really have 24hrs for the stay, they do have public hotspring, however we don't really have enough time to enjoy as the dinner is provided by other restaurant which is not inside the hotel. The meal provided is kinda not my expectation. In general the room is great, service is good, but not nearby convenient store and you cannot get any food if you are hungry at night.
