Room: Standard Japanese room
Thought the room would be facing Yuhata, unfortunately it was to the other side. The room was quite small, we stayed for 3 people, and basically couldn't open the suitcase after spreading the mattress. The washroom is quite old and has not been renovated.
food:
I booked the room through trip.com and also booked ”dinner” and ”breakfast”, looking at the photos I thought it was a set meal/kaiseki style. It turned out to be a buffet form. Hope to write clearly. If I knew it was a buffet, I would choose to eat out. The buffet taste is not lost, but it is not recommended to purchase. Because there are many restaurants near the hotel.
service:
After arriving at Kusatsu Bus Terminal by bus, you can go to the visitor service center downstairs, ask the staff to help call the hotel shuttle bus to pick you up, wait 5 minutes quickly. The hotel shuttle bus also has designated services from the hotel to the bus terminal, which will allow you to shuttle other buses to continue your journey at the right time.
Front desk: Such a big hotel but no one at the front desk seems to speak English... communication will be a little difficult, however helpful~

It was a very pleasant and unusual experience. Hotel room, traditional. Staff is pleasant and attentive. We took a room with footons and included kaiseki dinner (it is a separate gastronomic adventure). Each room is attached to its personal small onsen, which is available at any time for the period of stay.

The price is not expensive! There are 2 baths in the hotel, which are not big and can accommodate up to 4 people. The upper half is a private bath. You can reserve a time (45 minutes) when you enter the hotel. After midnight, it becomes a public bath for men and women.
You can also go to this sister store - Source Ichino hot spring bath, which is no more than 5 minutes' walk away.
There are self-service coffee machines and tea bags in the corridors on each floor of the hotel.
Meals were not provided when booking the hotel, but when checking in the hotel said they would provide a simple free breakfast, which I found to be pretty good the next morning.

This is a hotel with a long history since the Edo period. It is 2 minutes away from the bus station and Yuten. The hotel's meticulous service is meticulous and thoughtful, with a smile on your face, and the special apple juice is very delicious. The dinner is Kaiseki cuisine, and you can experience it one dish at a time. The food is quite rich. Special praise for Liu San who can speak Chinese. The service is very good, which makes us communicate barrier-free and feel at ease. The hot spring is also very comfortable. I have never experienced such a service-oriented hotel. Thank you again for the excellent service provided by Kusatsu Golden Green Hotel. Recommend everyone to experience it.

Excellent service. I will give 10 out of 5 if I could.
There was a staff who rushed out to us and asked if we were going to stay at the Ryokan. Very helpful for lost travelers overwhelmed by the cold weather. Greeted us warmly when we arrived. Explained the important information to us as best as they could in English, which is perfectly fine.
Room was big. Decorated meticulously in the traditional Japanese style. Yukata and Obi provided added on to the immersive experience.
Dinner was exquisite. Dishes gave us a taste of what traditional Japanese cuisine was like. The food was sincere (didn’t feel like frozen / canned / ready made food), served and plated meticulously.
There were 2 onsens, indoor and outdoor. They were clean and spacious enough. Water (I believe) is from the hot spring nearby and was immensely therapeutic.
Ryokan was near the heart of the town and everything was within walking distance.
Kindly shuttled us to the bus terminal when we checked out (we didn’t have to wait for fixed timings) and carried our (heavy) luggage.
All in all, we enjoyed the one night stay very much and they set a high bar for Japanese hospitality.

Next to the hotel is a free Jizo soup and a praying Jizo statue shrine. From Shinjuku Bus Station to Kusatsu Onsen Bus Station, a 5-minute walk to the hotel. The path to the hotel went uphill and downhill, in front of which is the Seven Star Hotel, and behind is the hotel where I live. This hotel is even more convenient for the Pochizo soup. There is a sign on the ground of the road, and at the bifurcation, it indicates which side of Jizo Soup and Tangliao (same as google map navigation). The hotel is very close to Yufu (the main valve of the hot spring village, which diverts hot springs with more than 80 degrees, not soaked). The Japanese-style hotel is very spacious and clean, and can't smoke. An authentic breakfast is served in the morning and is highly recommended.
The video I recorded seems to only upload pictures. The Japanese-style hotel environment is great.

An unforgettable hot spring trip. It was our first wedding anniversary. The dinner was delicious, including long-legged crab and other sashimi. I specially arranged for the hotel to help me make an anniversary cake as a surprise for my wife. Thank you for your help. The arrangement also included free popsicle tasting after soaking in the hot springs, which was very good. It would be better if there was fresh milk for sale. When we left the hotel on the second morning, the hotel also gave us a pair of sake as a gift. Thank you to the hotel staff for your service.

A very old hot spring hotel, well worth a visit. There is enough space in the parking lot. Everything is complete and comfortable once you check in. The hot spring is very good and effective.

Perfect
GGuest UserThis was my first and only stay at a ryokan so I don’t have much to compare it to. I chose this lodging because of the cats and good reviews on the food. The cats were really sweet and I enjoyed playing with them. I have 2 cats of my own so it was really nice. The food was so beautiful and delicious - the mushroom soup at dinner was amazing. I really enjoyed it. The private bath rooms were very convenient and open 24 hrs. I thought the facilities were clean and very pleasant. The location was very close to the central area and a quick walk to all the important sites including the bus station. The only comment I have was in the morning someone was smoking and the smell got ****** into the 2nd floor hallway so maybe more care should be taken to be sure the smoke stays outside. The host was so nice and sweet and I used google translate to ask questions. The matcha madeleines are so tasty I bought a box to take with me.
YYeung NicoleNo towels are provided in the public hot spring places and needa to bring from room to the onsen spot.
Asked the staff about the routes from Kusatsu to Shinjuku and they have no clue at all. Finally got one English speaking staff told us that theres direct bus from the station to Shinjuku.
Asked again whether advanced booking of the bus tickets are needed and the staff said it’s not necessary. We ended up the next day missed two earlier buses coz they were already full and we were reluctant to have 2 times transport changes by asking the tourism information centre.
Barely staffs can speak and understand English well.
However, the French set dinner are really nice and out of our expectations.
GGuest UserThis was my first time staying here! There are a lot of families here! When you enter the hotel, it smells a bit bad, probably because of the humidity. It's a long walk to get to our room for my husband and I, who don't have very good knees. There are also a lot of stairs, so it would be nice if there was a barrier-free area. The food is delicious! There are both Japanese-style and Western-style rooms, and we were able to relax in the spacious rooms.
LLilianTanGood value for money
There is a private bath for you to take a dip in
It's just that the room doesn't have a bath. You have to go to the big bathhouse to soak in the hot springs and wash together. If you mind, just book the Season Garden.
The room space is average and a bit stuffy. It would be better if you open the window
Overall very good
Anything to eat is fine
There is also a shuttle bus to Karuizawa Station (reservation is required in advance)
小小扭扭粉The hotel's facilities and hygiene are very good
There is a kitchen and public space
The only drawback is that there is no private bathroom
So you need to wait for public showers and toilets
Because the hotel location is relatively remote
The landscape is very beautiful on snowy days
But it will be more difficult on the way to the hotel
Because there is a lot of snow and steep slopes
GGuest UserThe hotel has high level of service and facility. The restaurant service and food is supreme. Parking space is totally enough if you do self drive like us. The indoor heat is a little too much even when turn it down like 20 oC. It is -5 to 3 outside.
So many onsen option is our reason to pick this hotel. Totally recommend for any small group or family to consider.
GGuest UserJapanese style accommodation, dinner and breakfast buffet are great, the hotel's hot spring is also good, but I recommend going to the three major hot springs in the town. The hotel service is very good, you can send luggage, call to ask for toothbrush and toothpaste and it will be delivered quickly.
TTeekhooTook JR express to Kusatsu. From train terminal take a 25 mins bus to Kusatsu bus terminal. There is a shuttle to bus terminal upon request. Take less than 3 mins to reach bus terminal. If walk, then you may take longer times.
I booked half boards. Dinner included. The dinner is super good. Free flow of rice, soup n side condiment. Breakfast was Okies. Takeaway coffee cups prepare for you.
I specially love the onsen. Robe n slippers had prepared in room for your usage.
Kusatsu is a place to have a short getaway from Tokyo.
GGuest UserI'm thinking of staying here again the next time I visit Kusatsu Onsen. It's about a 15-minute walk to the Yubatake. There's a bagel shop on the way. Really delicious. The building is lovely.
GGuest UserExcellent stay! Hotel may be old but the facilities are up to date and clean. Service from staff is also generally good. 7mins walk to Sainokaiwara Park via the short cut. It’s a 15mins walk from Yubatake and you’ll need to walk up a slope to get to the hotel, may be strenuous for those with luggages. There’s a shuttle bus to and fro hotel to Yubatake every hourly, refer to photo. There’s even a shuttle bus to Takasaki train station, so ask the staff for details. Breakfast in hotel is excellent and very homely, overall enjoyed my stay here and will recommend friends to come!
