We some issues with the room we got. Toilet has a foul smell but the service recovery was impeccable. We left for dinner and they helped us to shift rooms. All our stuff were placed exactly how we left them. They even brought over stuff we placed in the fridge. Parking is available on site but there are cheaper parking within the area.
Vessel is a budget type accommodation... You get just enough of what you need and if you want anything more or anything specific, you help yourself to their amenities on the 2nd floor reception. Location wise was perfect for us and the rooms are all insulated so you don't really hear the noise outside. They don't provide carpark but have a tie up where you pay a fixed rate to a very close by carpark operator (about 250m away only). We were 4 persons (2 adults and 2 teenagers) and even though the room came with two beds each sized between a single bed and a queen sized bed and a third roll out mattress, you still need to pay more for the bed linen, comforter and a pillow.
The hotel situated at the bus terminal where buses go directly from the airport.
Staffs are friendly and always happy to help.
Free coffee and tea at the lobby. Freshments like noodles you can get for free every night. Ice cream is free to take after 10pm. In the morning u can get free yoyurt.
Hot spring is very nice and hot. I would stay at the same hotel if I come again.

Clean in the new building, good system to take off your gods,
There's free ice cream when you get out of the bath.
They also boil ramen for free at night.
There is also enough charging port in the room, and TV is easy to use Netflix, YouTube, etc.
Cleanliness (minor issue): While the room itself was clean, it felt very damp upon entering, and there was a distinct musty odor. Thankfully, this dissipated after I ran the air conditioning for a bit.
There were four pillows on the bed – some soft ones and some medium-firm, possibly buckwheat, pillows. One of the medium-firm pillows, however, smelled absolutely horrific, like it hadn't been changed after countless sweaty guests. This really made me question the hotel's hygiene standards. I've since stayed at other hotels that also provide these medium-firm pillows, and none of those had any odor.
Location: The location is incredibly convenient. To reach Kumamon Square, you'll need to take the tram, which costs roughly 9 RMB per ride. Kumamoto Castle is visible as soon as you get off, and the hotel is just across the shopping street. Tsuruya Department Store is also within a 10-minute walk. Within a 5-minute radius, you'll find a 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, drugstores, and numerous eateries – essentially everything you'd need for a trip to Kumamoto is right here.
If you're not planning to be out exploring from dawn till dusk every day, I highly recommend staying here as everything you need is readily available. However, if your itinerary involves extensive JR travel from early morning until late at night, then staying closer to Kumamoto Station would be more advisable.
Really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is very new and relatively spacious for Japan. The bed size is slightly bigger than normal for 2 people (1.6m wide) and comfy so we really appreciated that. Room comes with all the amenities including a kettle. They also have universal wall socket which is a nice touch for people with different plugs for electronics. Great location too - just minutes of walk from the tram station and the main shopping area. Strongly recommend!
Location was great, right next to shinshigai street, there was a public spa and sauna complimentary for guests to use. The pyjamas top was also quite comfortable to wear. Disposable toiletries available for pickup at the recep area, this includes tea. However, no coffee was available which was kinda shocking to me as this was a first I encountered in all the hotels I have stayed at. The air con or ventilation vent also requires deep deep cleaning, I had the sniffles after staying there and the air conditioning seems warm even after adjusting it to the lowest. I realised why after seeing the vent. The room feels slightly smaller than other similar sizes room that I have booked during my travels in Kyushu region.
Good if you like old school charm hotel, room and service. Castle view room was a disappointment - have to stand at the side of the window to actually see the castle :(
Location was great and parking was onsite. There’s a driveway at the front of the hotel and from there, the staff guided us to their onsite parking. It’s as advertised JPY1000 per day but on day of checkout, parking is until 11.30am. After that, cheaper to park elsewhere (JPY100 for 15mins vs JPY200 for 2hrs at Kumamoto Castle).
This Kumamoto Riverside - MYSTAYS Hotel offers incredible value for money! Firstly, the location is superb. It's only about a 5-minute walk to the Sakuramachi Bus Terminal and very close to Torichosuji, Kumamoto's main shopping street. The hotel boasts a stylish design and provides amenities such as a laundry room, microwave, and ice machine. Meeting rooms are also available for a fee.
However, check-in is strictly enforced after 3 PM; I couldn't check in even when I arrived at 2 PM.
My room felt incredibly cozy and well-appointed. The spacious bed could comfortably accommodate two people, and the bathroom was relatively large, clean, and tidy! Complimentary amenities could be picked up downstairs, and the room offered a fantastic river view. The overall experience was truly excellent!
Very central location at the shopping mall but it is difficult to enter the hotel as mentioned by other reviews. Great amenities provided at the hotel lobby- hair oil and bath salts! Room was clean and spacious. Overall a great experience.

AAnonymous UserI had a pleasant stay at KKR Hotel Kumamoto. The room was quite spacious and very clean. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of Kumamoto Castle. From the hotel restaurant, you can enjoy a distant view of the back of the castle, which was still quite nice during breakfast. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay and would recommend it to others.
YYazawa poloThere weren't many reviews and it seemed like there were a lot of locals who were tourists. The room photos were so old that I thought I'd just sleep there, but it must have been remodeled, so it was different from the photos. The exterior of the building also looked like it was under construction, and it was clean. The staff were very friendly. The room was a little bigger than other local business hotels. I think I could open a suitcase under the bed and walk around leisurely. However, the bed had long legs so I could see underneath, which was clean, but I think it wasn't fixed, so the bed was pushed a little. Breakfast was included, so it was clean. I ate delicious home-cooked food, drank fresh fruit drinks, and had coffee. I went up to the room and spent some leisurely time before checking out. (The location is also good. There is a bus terminal, shopping mall, and arcade nearby on the Daegaseon Line.)
RRisingSeonIf I visit Kumamoto again in the future, I will definitely stay in Ark Hotel. It offers easy access to Kumamoto Castle and Sakura Machi.
I also enjoyed the lounge service of the hotel. The lounge is on the 10th floor of the hotel. I could see the Keeps of the castle. Wonderful view!! The lounge is open to the guest from 3 pm to 11 pm. Guests could enjoy free coffee and drinks. Good place to relax.
FFernawatiWe enjoyed our stays (2 nights) here. It’s so close to bus station (Gion) only 100-150 m walk from the hotel. And 850m from Kumamoto Station. The hotel located in a quiet area, which we were expected. We walked from city center to the hotel on the last night of our stay. It’s enjoyable walk and windy that night. The view from our hotel room was incredible, we could see the mountains and the river along the city.
LLinda HuangThe use of space is great. Although it is small, it has all the necessary features. It has a big bed and is comfortable to sleep on. You can put your suitcase under the bed. It is not far from the bus stop and there are many restaurants nearby.
Breakfast is provided free of charge. Although there are not many options, it is pretty good.
The living environment is hygienic and tidy.
