We stayed at the Berat Castle Hotel for 2 nights this past week. The hotel was totally renovated for the last several years. The owner said they spent 4 years renovating and opened in 2021. The attention to detail and wood walls and ceilings are beautiful. The room was comfortable, the heater worked very well as we were there in the winter. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was nicely renovated. We ate the free breakfast both mornings at the hotel. The first morning the brought us a plated breakfast with eggs and other sides, along with a basket of their homemade bread. The next morning it was a small buffet breakfast. We both had plenty to eat and it was a nice breakfast. We didn’t eat dinner at the hotel but one afternoon we sat outside, on the side of the hotel and had a glass of wine. We ordered the grapes leaves and a salad. Both were really good! The owners are very nice and eager to please. All the staff did not speak English but were pleasant and greeting with a smile. The gentleman, I didn’t get his name, that is usually found walking around was always willing to help us out. He does not speak English but by way of sign language we figure out he makes the wine. He took us to see his set up for making wine and olive oil. Very basic setup and this is very common for Albania. It seemed most restaurants make their own wine and olive oil among other things. Grapes, olives, figs and some others I don’t remember are abundant in Albania. Our stay was lovely and very comfortable. It wasn’t hot while we were there so I can’t say anything about the air conditioning in the rooms. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Also, plenty of parking. Wi-Fi was good.
