Merilton Hotel
4.2/549 Reviews
The Merilton Hotel is on some levels an OK basic Hotel however given the rates charged it is an utter disappointment. The entrance areas are scruffy which doesn't create a good first impression. On to the room, we booked what was described as a family suite. A liberal use of term, taking liberty with description would be apt. For a start there is a kettle and two mugs but no basics such as tea, coffee and creamer. Onto the TV it didn't work. A sofa bed, I assume this is the qualifier for family suite, is a bit of a broken wreck. Lean back and it folds out with a bang with the potential to cause injury. The bathroom is spacious and works well, if somewhat dark. Ironing, well it looks a bit Dickensian, please see picture for reference. It located in the corridor and is communal. Breakfast, both the room and what's on offer has to be seen to be believed, so I took a few pictures. Now onto the positives, yes there are a couple, the WiFi is very good. I was also impressed by the water refilling station in the corridor which dispensed free filtered water meaning bottles could be reused. The bed was very comfortable and the bed linen clean. That's it, as upon leaving there was a strong stench in the foyer of pee which invaded the nostrils. The question, would I return? An emphatic No on this one!

The room quite spacious and nice. They even put sejadah for muslim to pray. What a consideration 👍. Its not just that but also have iron inside the room which I love the most. Overall is good to stay.

Regularly entered to the restaurant called rasa-rasa. Coffee house was cozy. Good for client meet up or lepaking. All food promotion is good. Hot item for evening tea just rm9.90/set. U may have various of hot 'Cucoq' serve for you and delicious sambal bilis. You must try their new promo steambot menu which grill and soup. Two kind of soups either tomyam or clear soup. Much variety of grill item.. Love to bring my family having dinner at rasa-rasa coffee house. U must try! Service staff was excellent. While u had seat they will serve you with cold sky juice. Recommended to all as i am happy with the food.. Keep it Up!! Cheerss
Purest Hotel Sungai Petani
4.2/5115 Reviews
There is a lot to love about the Purest Hotel in Sungai Petani starting with the room decor. It reminded me of the style of many small boutique hotels I have stayed at in Northern Italy over the years. Simple stylish and elegant would sum it up. The breakfast spread here again ranks with some of the best I have experienced at any South East Asian Hotel. Catering no for both Western and Asian taste it offers a good selection to both. I ate a very satisfactory lunch in the restaurant on the ground floor on one day, which again was good quality. Vegetables that accompanied the dish were nicely presented on the plate and mercifully al dente, a feat that many hotels worldwide fail. Where it is let down: The marble bathroom floor, whilst stylish, is a virtual deathtrap when wet as it becomes dangerously slippy. This is as mentioned in previous reviews and could be solved with the simple addition of a rubber floor mat. Being a supposed 4 star hotel and given it has a swimming pool I would have expected bathrobes, but there were none. When I enquired I was told they were available at the pool, they were not. When I enquired at reception no one seemed to have a clue as to wheter they had them or not. I was eventually told they did not provide them. This, despite me having seen the same in the housekeeping laundry basket. The pool area is a bit of a mess with stacked chairs here and there and no staff until 4pm. In the meantime it's seems to be used by hotel staff wanting to have a smoke. The pool itself, whilst great, is missing a number of tiles which looks a bit shabby for a 4 star. Note to management, some umbrellas by the sun loungers would be great for shade in the scorching rooftop sunshine. Lastly, I ordered room service on one evening and it was delivered without cutlery or condiments to begin. The food itself, a chicken burger, completely tasteless so a disappointment. As I said to begin with a few well placed tweaks and this Hotel could be wonderful and warrent the claimed 4 stars. Would I stay again and would I recommend it? Absolutely!!
