We’ve stayed in a number of bush/jungle/outback/desert lodges but this is without doubt the best. Perfectly located for exciting game drives in the Mara. The rooms are only tents in the sense that the roof is canvas. Our room had 3 4 poster beds ( there were 2 of us) , separate toilet , shower and also an ante room in the bathroom with mirror, safe , hairdryer etc this was incredibly useful. Our terrace overlooked the Mara river with a table, chais and day a bed. We could clearly hear hippos and had really cute bush bucks visit us regularly. The room also has a fan. Some of the tents are quite a walk from the main building, but we were right adjacent. There is a lovely turn down service in the early evening when the mosquito nets are deployed, lights turned on and hot water bottles placed in the beds. 5 bottles of water provided per day , water in shower is lovely and hot . The only minor quibble is no WiFi in room -only in bar & restaurant. The service culture , as it is throughout Kenya , is magnificent and the Ashnil stands out here. The food is superb at both breakfast and dinner and the staff group are most thoughtful marking birthdays in memorable ways The service from Fred and Nicholas in the bar was very good ,and Kennedy in the restaurant was so attentive and catered to our groups every need including organising the correct sized tables, reserving them for us and even having our favourite wine ready on ice before we’d even got there. All this is overseen by Morris the restaurant manager who is constantly checking all is ok. All the food is great , I particularly liked the curries, pickles and fresh chapattis, followed by an excellent cheeseboard. Hippos and crocs can be seen from the bar terrace . We were too busy to use the pool but we’re told it was lovely. Also a very nice, reasonably priced gift shop with marked prices , a real bonus in Kenya , meaning no haggling! I could go on , but basically this was one of the best places we’ve ever stayed in one of the best countries we’ve ever visited.
