My husband and I were traveling to Koh Samui for a long weekend and were looking for a quiet beach place to stay. White House Resort Hotel and Spa are good value for money. It's not as expensive as other resort accommodations on the island, but the service and location are top notch. We booked 3 nights in their Thai style villa which has a private sitting area outside - surrounded by lush greenery. The villa also has a "living room" with TV (we never turned it on), CD player, etc. In addition to ottomans and armchairs, there is coffee, tea and a well-kept minibar. Every day, they gave us tea and snacks, placed outside in the courtyard, and their service was quick and quiet. They also provide us with Bangkok Post every day. The bedrooms are huge compared to other hotels I've stayed in in Asia, as is the bathroom. The room had a king size bed and plenty of bath and beach towels. Breakfast is served at Sala on the beach, good quality and variety. The wooden benches on the beach may not be the most comfortable if you're staying for hours, but the shallow beach in front of the hotel is lovely and great for swimming and kayaking. The pool area is also beautiful. There are many good places to eat along Cheung Mon beach, lunch and cocktails are not expensive. We ate at the White House, which also offers "traditional" Thai dancing. BBQ grilled fish is cheap and delicious. Somewhat: the whole place has a tropical garden feel, peaceful, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Disadvantages: It takes 300 baht for a trip from Cheung Mon Beach to Chaweng. This wasn't a problem for us as we only visited once for a short stay, but for a longer stay there are some things to consider.
