Where do I begin? My husband and I stayed at Candlewood Lodge for our honeymoon on 17-21 October 2024, by recommendation from our parents who also stayed there in 2017 and were absolutely delighted with the experience. Our expectations were high, but Matthias and the lovely Candlewood team exceeded our expectations beyond words! You cannot experience Knysna without staying at Candlewood. Every single detail is designed to make your stay as pleasant and memorable as possible. The staff and owners cater to your needs in every single way and truly care. We stayed at the Seahorse private cottage with spectacular view of Knysna, beautiful interior and a private terrace overlooking the pool area. Matthias cares for every detail of your stay. A beautiful book in the room welcomed us to Knysna with tips, recommendations and many other helpful suggestions and ideas. The staff were always attentive, friendly and kind. When we wanted to go to the beach, they immediately prepared a beach bag for us with towels, snacks and umbrella. When we wanted to stay for dinner at the lodge (even though it was Sunday), they arranged for the chef to come and cook an excellent three course meal. They even played our favorite music and artists durinf breakfast! We were spoiled every minute of the day. The breakfast and food in itself deserves its own praise. The breakfast is the best we have ever had during our travels around the world, even better than five star luxury hotels as the Candlewood breakfast is not only incredibly tasty but also presented in the most beautiful manner. A new menu is offered every day and the quality is absolutely excellent. Matthias and the staff make everything from scratch and what is not made from scratch is handpicked with the outmost care. When leaving the lodge, we truly were sad to say goodbye to the entire team. After only a few days, we felt like family but had also been spoiled to an extent that our expectations for the remainder of our honeymoon is unreasonably high…… To anyone visiting Knysna: PLEASE stay at Candlewood Lodge. I cannot recommend it enough.

It was a real surprise. Everything so cute, nice, perfect! So clean and well decorated. But above all, Mathew the owner: outstanding! He also showed us his garden, it is quite a botanical garden. He cultivate a lot of rare plants. Breakfast was luxurious! I recommend this place so much. The best relation price/ quality in our trip in south Africa.

First to mention is the host Mattias, who whose personal customer service is the best I have ever experienced. The staff is fantastic and professional. The view from the bed/balcony over the lagoon is beautiful. The rooms are specious and modern with all accessories you need to be happy customer. The breakfast is great and the surrounding tranquil Highly recommend !!!

We had wonderful 11 nights stay. We were met by lovely Faith who ensured that everything was perfect for us. The location is elevated with a beautiful view over the lagoon. It’s a lovely 40 minute walk along the edge of the lagoon to the Quays and Thesen island. Ubers are cheap for the journey back. Urs and Matthias are very special people and amazing hosts and have a great team, specially Zen for the amazing breakfast.

This is one of the best and most professionally managed B&B’s I have ever stayed in. It should actually be a 6 star hotel. Matthias and his team are welcoming, efficient and friendly. The rooms are modern and well appointed, and very clean. It is only a 5 minute drive to the famous ‘The Heads’ viewpoint. The breakfast is amazing, as the pictures hopefully show. Even the Wi-Fi works perfectly! Highly recommended.

Amazing place, wonderful staff, great rooms, sheer luxury, all the facilities you need, pool deck, great views. Breakfast good, highly recommended. Stopped over after a visit to George from Port Elizabeth, we love Knysna stayed on the waterfront before, but coming back here next time

Superb guesthouse. Spotless rooms with a mini fridge, coffee and tea facilities. Nothing was too much trouble. Welcome drink with an explanation of things to do in the local area. Suggestions for where to dine, and booked for you if needed. The breakfast was amazing and changes daily. Bedrooms look over the estuary, a beautiful balcony to sit out on a take in the view. Highly recommended.

This is a gem of a place. If you visit Knysna, this is where to stay. Candlewood Lodge is perched on a hillside with magnificent views of the Knysna Heads, the Lagoon, and the dazzling sunsets. Surrounded by leafy terraces and a well-tended, beautiful garden, it lies in a serene, secluded setting just seven minutes drive from the town centre and the Waterfront. Our room was quiet and spacious and filled with light, with balconies on two sides. We were warmly welcomed by Faith, the manageress, who informed us of Knysna's delights. We met Zen who cooks delicious breakfasts which vary from morning to morning. She also does an excellent dinner on request. We met Urs, the owner whose life story reads like novel – and Maria, Alaine, King and Blessing who are always smiling, attentive and helpful. They are not just a team, they are a happy family eager to include their guests into their family. And they certainly succeeded in doing so with us.
