Wild Goose Lodge

We stayed one night on our way to Lassen. Our host at the lodge was incredibly helpful about where to go and things to see. The room was perfectly equipped: well designed bathroom with shelves in just the right places, shampoo and other necessaries (including a razor!) all provided, the beds were wonderfully comfortable, excellent places to store things at night and good reading lights, easy to control TV, a quiet and very efficient AC unit (which was so needed when we were there). Can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay. And for what it’s worth it is in contrast to the quality of our stays at least a couple of other places on our vacation - which were all considerably more expensive and even though the people were all pleasant there was always one or more things that needed to be worked on. Not so at Wild Goose - they run a great place. It may look unassuming but you’ll enjoy your stay!

Lots of minor problems and one major problem with the room. Major was the amount of road noise with many very loud motorcycles going past the front of the motel and large trucks going along the cross street that is the main way through the town. Minor was having the television mounted at the ceiling so it was very uncomfortable to watch it. We ended up watching movies on a laptop instead of the TV. This was made worse by the mattress sliding forward when sitting on the bed and trying to lean back against the headboard. The mattress was on a board platform and so slid with little pressure. A cleat should have been added along edge of the platform to keep the mattress in place. Be aware that the shower is about 30x30 inches in size and there is no safety grab bar. The water is very hard and so we were not able to get clean and not have soap residue on our hair and bodies.

My friend and I spend 3 nights here while participating in a local sheepdog trial. This motel is pet friendly and even more people friendly. They have a common room full kitchen, and the owner made a fire for us and told us to call him a couple hours ahead of time if we wanted to use the kitchen the next night. We did and gave him an ETA for when we would be cooking and they had a nice warm fire ready and waiting for us. I have already made reservations at this gem of a motel for the next sheepdog trial.
