We arrived in the small hours, half-dead on our feet and were met with a warm, generous welcome which lasted the whole week of our stay. The photos didn't capture the charm for me so I was pleasantly surprised. With regards to the rooms, a delightful daily ritual was seeing the towel art creations of the chambermaids. Tropical Sunset is headed up by Remo, and I've never met a hotel manager so dedicated to making sure every need is met. From getting the best deal on day trips - we bathed with turtles, swam with dolphins/went snorkelling and took a cultural tour of Stone Town. He was always checking in with you and trouble-shooting every step of the way. He's a real asset to the hotel. Also Mohammed and his team Bertram and Angel were equally warm, memorable and great company over breakfast. From the evening menu, I recommend the seafood curry for a taste of local cuisine made with love and care. The hotel pool is compact and tranquil however there wasn't enough shade for my pale skin so I really enjoyed visiting the sister hotel for a couple of days, bagging a shady, windy spot from which to look at the sea and sink into my book. Another star staff member is Masaai Frankie, again checking in on your wellbeing at the end of an island adventure. I'd say what sets it apart is the lovely home away from home feel and a core staff of people who take pride in their jobs, going the extra mile to give you a enjoyable stay.

Had an absolutely amazing week at tropical sunset. I stayed in the honeymoon suite- it was lovely and cool, with good black out blinds and a great view of the ocean. The best thing about the stay was the people who worked at the hotel and the general atmosphere. It was like being part of a family for the week. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. Massive thanks to Remo the manager - he was like a father always looking out for you, making sure you were happy and he couldn’t do more for you. He organised 3 great day trips for us: swimming with wild dolphins and snorkelling, swimming with sea turtles and doing a sunset cruise and the spice farm and Stone town. Everything went seamlessly and made it all effortless for us. He also took us to the sister hotel at Sofia sunrise and arranged a number of massages at the hotel. The food was exceptional- Chef Mohammed and his team use the freshest ingredients and it’s really healthy. The breakfasts are hearty and varied. The seafood curry was delicious. When I fell ill both Remo and Mohammed came to the hospital with me and stayed to make sure I was ok. It touched my heart - the genuine care that they showed. The team brought me breakfast in bed each morning after I fell ill. The owner of the hotel Antonio also frequently checked in to see how I was feeling. I could not have felt more cared for. Bertram and Angel who work in the restaurant are so friendly and fun and always go the extra mile. Frankie was always there at the end of each day to ask how our day had been. The hotel is a great base to explore the island, the location is far preferable to Nungwi which has been taken over by mass tourism. It’s peaceful and authentic but there are lots of restaurants within walking distance so doesn’t get boring. I can’t recommend this place highly enough! I hope I can visit again soon!

First of all, the price/quality of this hotel is great! We really enjoyed our stay here! The guys working here are amazing. We had so much fun at the restaurant in the evening with the guy working there and had the best talks about the island and the difference in our lives, big shout out to him! The exact reason why we stayed in every night (not always for dinner, but definitely for drinks) and chill in the restaurant or around the pool and watch the crazy big bats and sometimes even the bush baby! Also Remo was really helpful in bringing us to the sister hotel for lovely relaxing days and great food! The hotel is just a walk away to the beach and beach restaurants, plenty of choice. (lots of sellers here though, find your way around them). A bit dark at night to walk back but we always felt very safe just walking with our phone lights. We went to this hotel to explorer the island from there, and it was so nice and chill to come back in the tranquil serenity after a day of exploring and relax in the pool or at our balcony. We had some powercuts, but the staff was really working above and beyond to fix it quickly every time. Breakfast was good,. Even though they had a menu to choose from, for an 8 night stay it was a lot of the same. But quality was great, also for snacks and dinner. Not fun to write, but maybe some good feedback; We felt the lady at the reception was not very helpful. She just did the bare minimum and when we asked things we just got a big sigh about it. Too bad because all the other staff was so helpful! A little proactivity in telling us about everything they offer or trips we could make would have been welcome. We arranged most of the things ourselves outside the hotel because of this. Also, we felt that just 2 small bottles of water at arrival was a bit less. You can buy a big bottle of water at the restaurant for 2 USD, while a six pack of water in the shop is not even 2 USD. It would be helpful to arrange a small bottle of water every day at least as drinking water from the tap is not safe. Probably because of water quality, but our shower(heads) looked quite nasty even though everything was always spotlessly clean. Another opportunity for the hotel; I've tried booking directly with the hotel, but the price was much higher and communication didn't flow. Therefor we chose to book with *********** which costs the hotel commission. Definitely no feedback not to stay at this hotel, because overall we had a great experience!

If you are looking for a place to relax, this is the right place for you... Very clean, spacious rooms with detailed decorations and a stunning seaview (I stayed in the deluxe room), a restaurant with tasty food, and a lovely staff that makes you feel welcomed from the first moment, especially Mohamed the restaurant manager and Daniele the hotel manager, very caring and professional... The best bed i slept in Zanzibar, and a very great plus are the curtains that hold back the light in the morning, so that you can sleep as long as you like. Highly recommended!

We had a fantastic stay at Tropical Sunset, we were the only guests for half our holiday and it felt like our private residence. All the staff are lovely, nothing was too much trouble and there was always someone around to take care of you. We couldn't find fault with anything except my wife would have liked a mirror in the bedroom to do her makeup (The Honeymoon Suite) as the bathroom was to hot to use. One of the joys was being that bit removed from the beach so you didnt get bothered by Hawkers and with it being adult only no screaming children about to interupt the serenity. Plenty of different restaurants about but the Hotel Restaurant was as good as any we tried. Everybody in Kiwengwa were very friendly even when out late in the village we felt safe and everybody says hello "jambo" Fantastic hotel, highly recommended.

Very relaxing stay in Kiwengwa, Tropical sunset hotel. Amazing staff, always available to help and sort out excursions. We had a great time even if it was the rain season + Ramadan. It was very calm and relaxing. The hotel is really pretty, lovely pool, rooms are super comfy, air con, hot showers, wifi… The white sandy beach is 5min walk away. would highly recommend.

We had a fantastic 10 nights here. It has a proper small hotel feel, with just 9 rooms and a lovely, friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The room we had was lovely and spacious with a view over the pool. Nice big bathroom with walk-in shower. Good breakfast with everything freshly cooked. We had dinner there a few nights too; nice selection and although you don't get the same atmosphere as you do in the beach side restaurants, it's nice to have the option to eat at the hotel and the food is good quality. What really makes the place special though is the staff. They are so friendly and made us feel really welcome. Remo particularly went out of his way to organise a fantastic trip for us and he and the team do everything possible to make sure your stay there is an enjoyable one. The road down to the beach is quite steep and uneven, and very dark at night - we had to use our phone torches to see - but we didn't have any problems and felt completely safe. Definitely recommend a stay here!

Not much to say, brand new hotel, nicely furnished rooms, the most comfortable mattress I had during our 5weeks trip in Tanzania. Everything was extremely clean. All rooms have big balconies and there is a possibility to wash your clothes 10$ for 2 washing machine (this was actually the only place that charged per washing machine, not by item because they still hand wash clothes). Restaurant serves also really nice food, prices not higher than the beachfront restaurant, stuff very pleasant and willing to customize everything we asked for! I highly recommend this place, terrific price/quality ratio!
