We’ve stayed at the Erika 10 times over the past few years, although this was prior to 2019, after which the hotel was sold. We loved the friendliness of the place, the smiles, the family that owned it, just everything. The food was outstanding. The rooms were a little tired, but this was part of the charm. So, in 2024 we arrived at the Newley acquired and refurbished hotel with high expectations. On arrival, the reception was empty. After a while, a guy appeared, we explained we had 2 rooms booked. He insisted we only had 1. After some checking and conversations with someone else, he eventually found our additional room. Then we had to complete the guest cards, for each guest, and full passport information, in German. Little empathy for us having arrived after a long drive. Eventually he gave up, exasperated, chucked the keys at us and pointed vaguely in the direction of our rooms. No explanation of the facilities, no assistance with luggage offered. What a hopeless welcome. Our room, a junior suite, was nice enough, however the bed… mattress topper covered in a rubber sheet, the sheet topper and duvet made from a hessian type material, so uncomfortable. The bathroom had a large sink, but nowhere to put your toiletries, no shelf. No tea making facility, just a coffee pod machine. We were booked for dinner each night, we only attended the first night as the food was so poor. Badly cooked food, boring menu, not a patch on the old place. Even the breakfast, which should shine in Austria, was poor. Small choice, boring and the restaurant staff left us to find a table, nothing was explained. I read that on the sale, the 20 employees were retained. I could see that now only the long suffering barman was left. The rest have left this dreadful excuse of a hotel. The heart has been ripped out of this hotel. There is no love, no warmth and no effort on the part of the staff to engage. You can feel the hopelessness of the place. We will never stay here again and recommend that you give this place a wide berth.
