I think this is the best hotel in Kinshasa, the capital of Congo.

This is a good hotel. The rooms are well-appointed, the food in the restaurant is excellent, the breakfasts are fantastic, and the staff are very friendly. The restaurant prices are high, but not unexpectedly high. The restaurant menu is limited, so if you are here for a prolonged time, you will get bored pretty soon. But the food is excellent. I am a seasoned traveller, with 33 African countries visited so far, countless hundreds of hotels ranging from 15USD to over 500USD. I've stayed in places with absolute luxury, and places with no water, shared toilets, and no AC, so I have learned to accept and overcome a lot. I have a lot of patience and I don't complain easily. However, the Novotel in Kinshasa warrants some criticism from me. The service in the hotel is way below the standard I expect from a hotel like this. It's not that the staff are unhelpful, because they are, it's just that everything here is so imprecise and inconsistent. One day you get two bottles of water in your room, the next day one, and the next day none. You get two towels one day, and none the next. One day there's one towel, and no toilet paper. The upstairs bar staff are terrible. You can wait 20 minutes for someone to ask what you'd like to order, and then it takes 20 minutes for a simple beer to arrive. They don't pay attention to you at all, and will often walk straight past you to serve someone else. A simple snack took aver an hour an a half one evening, and the place was not even full. I like to sit outside on the patio in the restaurant. Sometimes you get serviettes, sometimes you don't. There's ALWAYS a shortage of ashtrays. Table clearing is extremely slow. Sometimes tables are left uncleared for well over an hour after the table has been vacated. The coffee machines in the breakfast area are ALWAYS malfunctioning and no one seems to care. Every morning there is a struggle to get a cup of coffee without having to call a staff member to fix the machine. The bar prices for spirits are confusing. The only price on the menu is per bottle. I tried to get a straight answer of the price of a simple vodka and coke, and ended up paying USD60 for Beluga Vodka. Who on earth mixes premium vodka with coke? If there was a price list per shot, that would make much more sense. Then I found out that the hotel doesn't give the tips to the staff. If you sign for a meal, and add a tip, the hotel keeps that and the waiter sees none of it. I'm not surprised the waiters have no motivation to give better service. After I discovered this, I started tipping in cash, and oh boy, did the service improve! Anyway, as I said it is a good hotel, but there's certainly room for improvement which could easily be achieved with a minimal effort on the part of management.

The hotel is new and really quite a nice place to stay. Our room was well appointed, the bed very comfortable, wifi strong, shower had amazing pressure. Staff need training which is the reason my review only has 3 stars. Once they train staff to be more customer focused and not try to make them feel uncomfortable then it will be a great place to stay. Much better price wise than the other big hotels in Kinshasa.

Good vibe but bad customer service from check-in to check out. The service is too slow. The agent are not used to the system and get confused. They haven't made my room the whole day, I had to shout for them to make it.

Terrible, there’s a lot of noise between the rooms like someone is pulling furniture every night. They gave me a water bottle that had rusted at the top opening where you put your mouth to drink, best they provide plastic water bottles as complimentary water. The switches in the bedroom are a nightmare, they’re sensor switches so you should move around every 5 minutes you can’t be stationary and work on your computer without that irritation of on and off lights every now and then.

Very disappointing. In the booking note we asked for a room far away from the elevator. Ended up in room 208. Literally the room closest to the elevator. Come off the elevator, room 208. The room is a good size. No desk, but there is a round table in the corner. Fixtures feel ikea-esquece. The flooring is vinyl stickers. Great for cleaning, not so much for feeling cozy. Feels super cheap. The room we got was also a handicap room, so the bathroom shower didn’t have a door, rather blinds. The fridge didn’t work either. There’s no garbage in the room or milk powder for the tea, and the shower gel was missing so we washed with shampoo. One coffee mug for two of us, and the mugs don’t have handles, so you burn yourself taking turns drinking your milk less tea. Next morning asked to change rooms. 9am. Packed our bags and emptied the room for them to make it easier. Brought the bags down to reception. Left the hotel and came back at 4:00pm. The reception was quick to remember that we were waiting for new room keys. Imagining that between 9-4 would be enough time to get us a new room, we were asked to patient a few minutes by the receptionist. It took well over 25 minutes for them to assist us. The new room was also basic. A good size but cold and industrial. The closet doesn’t have doors. The AC is comical. You can’t go below 20C and even then it’s a weird hot air coming out of the vents. You can smell the humidity coming through. Not impressed.

A very friendly staff always at your disposal, the hotel cleanliness and the fantastic view of the Congo River that you get from room or the rooftop which includes a pool makes it one of the best hotel in Kinshasa. Plus the prices are more than descent

Madam Brenda, your impeccable service at Kau kau makes us want to come back, your management must be delighted to have you. Ms. Annick, swimming no longer holds any secrets for you. The children loved it. Thanks to you, Novotel Kinshasa will live. top

The rooms are nice and clean. The view of the city is beautiful only at night. Concerning the staff, the latter is polite and friendly. But all this is ruined by the service. Everything is paid for, the bathrobe, the toothbrush, the toothpaste, the lotion...for a hotel of this standard, that is not possible. My breakfast is limited. In short, these are things to improve
